Joe Rogan mocks celebrity divorces, calls out J.Lo—’She’s a lot of work’

Joe Rogan has spoken about Jennifer Lopez’s multiple divorces, as the screen star and singer’s split from Ben Affleck marks the end of her fourth union.

Following months of speculation, Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck in August. The Gigli co-stars wed in Las Vegas in July 2022, some 20 years after they first started dating and 18 years after they called off their initial engagement.

A decade earlier, Lopez tied the knot with singer Marc Anthony in 2004. The couple announced the amicable end of their relationship in 2011, and their divorce finalized in 2014. They share 16-year-old twins Emme and Maximilian.

Lopez was also married to her backing dancer Cris Judd for a little over a year from 2001, and former waiter Ojani Noa for several months from February 1997. Additionally, Lopez was engaged to baseball star Alex Rodriguez between 2019 and 2021.

Rogan brought up Lopez’s relationships during a November 13 installment of his popular podcast, as he spoke with criminal justice reform advocate and civil rights attorney Josh Dubin about public fascination with celebrities.

“[People] love it when celebrities get divorced: ‘Haha, you’re miserable, too,'” Rogan said, as he clarified that he does not draw personal pleasure from such news.

“I find it fascinating when people keep getting married and keep getting divorced,” he went on. “God damn, how many times can J.Lo get married before the next guy’s like, ‘Hey, I don’t know if this is going to work out.'”

The host of The Joe Rogan Experience said that Hollywood actor Affleck is “certainly a problem as well,” while adding that Anthony “seems like a sweetheart.”

Returning his attention to Lopez, Rogan said: “She married a bunch of dudes. But, you know, whatever. She’s obviously a lot of work…You want a diva? Good luck. That requires a lot of work.”

Newsweek has contacted a representative of Lopez via email for comment.

The discussion was sparked when Dubin told Rogan that “most of the headlines that get the most clicks are about someone having a f****** affair, somebody dying. There’s not a lot of triumph in the news.”

“Well, people like when other people’s lives suck, because it makes them not think about the suck of their own life,” Rogan offered. “That’s why they like it when a celebrity falls—like a P. Diddy gets arrested—because they see these people living these lives they could never imagine, like yachts and Rolls Royces and all that s***. And then they see them get taken down. Like, ‘Yeah,’ because they were, you know, envious.”

Rogan added that “it’s a part of our culture to celebrate wealth in the most disgusting and extravagant ways, you know. Like, I mean, how many social media personalities have emerged? Just all about, look at all the stuff I have. Look at all the things I have. Look at all the famous people I’m hanging out with. Look at all the girls. Look at the yacht. Look at the car. Look at the jet. Look at this, look at that. Look at all the things you can’t get. And when those people get got, people love it.”

During an October conversation with Nikki Glaser for Interview magazine, Lopez shared that she was enjoying her newfound single status. She also said that she doesn’t plan to start dating again anytime soon.

“Now I’m excited,” she said. “I’m not looking for anybody, because everything that I’ve done over the past 25, 30 years, being in these different challenging situations, what can I f****** do when it’s just me flying on my own…what if I’m just free?”

“The work is figuring yourself out,” she continued. “It’s looking back at the feelings underneath and the belief systems that we have about ourselves that make us make certain choices and create certain patterns in our life.”

Lopez, who dated hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs more than two decades ago, conceded that doing the inner work is “f****** hard.”

“It feels lonely, unfamiliar, scary,” she said. “It feels sad. It feels desperate. But when you sit in those feelings and go, ‘These things are not going to kill me,’ it’s like actually, I am capable of joy and happiness all by myself…Being in a relationship doesn’t define me.”
