Full list of celebrities who said they would ‘leave’ USA upon Donald Trump win

Numerous celebrities have voiced their intentions to leave the US if Donald Trump were to be re-elected, despite a Sopranos star recently saying ‘half of Hollywood’ would be voting for Trump. The world reacted with dismay as the news broke that the controversial figure and former reality TV star had secured victory in the US presidential race.

In the lead-up to the election, several high-profile figures, such as Cardi B, Lili Reinhart, and Christina Applegate, openly criticized Trump’s supporters for their views. “Please unfollow me if you voted against female rights. Against disability rights. Yeah that. Unfollow me because what you did is unreal. Don’t want followers like this,” Christina stated on X.

She later added: “I apologize. I’m still reeling and sobbing. But I’m not angry anymore.”

It has also emerged that America Ferrera, known for her roles in Ugly Betty and Barbie, is considering a move to the UK, reportedly feeling ‘sick’ over Trump’s re-election. An insider alleged: “America is sick that Donald Trump is President again,” expressing her disappointment at Kamala Harris’s loss and her belief in the country’s values.

According to MailOnline, she intends to continue working in Hollywood despite the potential move. The Mirror has sought comments from her representatives, reports the Mirror.

Other celebrities contemplating a departure include Minnie Driver, who revealed to The Times of London in July her return to the UK after nearly three decades in Los Angeles.

Over the summer, she commented on the challenge of returning to the US if Trump was re-elected. “If I lived in a red [Republican] state, no, I couldn’t [return]. But living in California, you are somewhat insulated,” she said. “But do you want to go and live in a bubble? Do you run away from the fire or do you go back and help?.”

Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi Goldberg, who previously stated she’d leave if Trump won his first election, expressed her stance on The View in 2016: “He’s the president. I’m still not going to say his name – that’s not going to change.”

Initially saying: “Maybe it’s time for me to move, you know. I can afford to go” on the show during his campaign, she later clarified she would not actually exit the country. However, after Trump posted: “Canada doesn’t want you Whoopi, NOBODY DOES! ! ! ” referencing a meme about her reluctance, her sentiments on relocation were brought into question.

In 2023, Cher spoke to The Guardian detailing health issues incurred due to Trump’s term in office and admitted she was intent on leaving the country if ‘he gets in’ again, stating: “I almost got an ulcer the last time. If he gets in, who knows? This time I will leave.”

Sophie Turner

Sophie Turner also revealed her reasoning behind moving back to the UK post-split from Joe Jonas only last month.

Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar magazine, she shared: “Every city we ended up in, the first thing I’d do was find a British shop and stock up on a month’s worth of chocolate.”

Delving into her thoughts on America’s political climate, she continued: “The gun violence, Roe v Wade being overturned … everything just kind of piled on. I’m so happy to be back. It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England. I just never really feel like myself when I’m not in London, with my friends and family.”
