POV: it’s Halloween night and you’re settling in for a scary movie night, but the options seem endless — how do you ever decide on a movie? It’s a horror film in itself; you scroll for so long that it’s time for bed having not even started watching something.
So let us make the decision for you. Launching on streaming today, just in time for Halloween, is “The Substance,” the buzzy body horror film starring Demi Moore.
Moore plays Elisabeth Sparkle, a fading star who is fired from her TV aerobics show upon her 50th birthday. Distressed, she resorts to trying a new, experimental black market drug that creates a younger, hotter clone of herself (Margaret Qualley).
Not for the faint of heart, “The Substance” is a satirical take on aging through the use of some truly gross body horror.
After hitting theaters in September, the film is now making its streaming debut on not one, but two different services making it that much easier to watch tonight without necessarily having to drop $20 on VOD — it’s also streaming on Mubi.
How to watch ‘The Substance’ for free:
To watch “The Substance” for free, first you’ll need to be an Amazon Prime subscriber. If you aren’t, no worries! It’s easy to get started and you won’t have to pay anything toward your membership for 30 days, but still take advantage of all the perks.
From there, you’ll be able to add a Prime Video Channel subscription onto your account — in this case, you’ll want to add Mubi. You can subscribe via the Mubi page or head right to “The Substance” and click Watch with MUBI / Start your 7-day Free Trial.
