The theme and celebrity co-chairs of the 2025 Met Gala have been revealed!
This upcoming year, the annual event – held on the first Monday in May each year – will have the following theme: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”
It’s the first Met Gala to focus on menswear since 2003!
Vogue revealed about the theme that it will focus on “Black dandy as its subject, examining the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.”
The show is inspired by Monica Miller, Professor and Chair of Africana Studies’ book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity,” where she “establishes Black dandyism as both an aesthetic and political construct.”
She shared that Black dandyism is “a strategy and a tool to rethink identity, to reimagine the self in a different context. To really push a boundary—especially during the time of enslavement, to really push a boundary on who and what counts as human, even.” Another way to think of it is “dressing wisely and well.”
