Eduardo Xol, a designer on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” has died one week after being stabbed. He was 58.
Xol died Thursday at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, California, according to a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
He died from injuries related to a stabbing on September 10.
TMZ, who was first to report the news, said Xol had “significant injuries” when he was discovered by police over a week before his death.
Xol reportedly called the cops for help after being stabbed and was discovered in an apartment in Palm Springs.
Police told TMZ Xol “was in serious but stable condition” when he was brought to the hospital where he died.
Richard Joseph Gonzales, a 34-year-old man from Cathedral City, Calif., has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection to the incident, according to TMZ.
Gonzales allegedly called the police the day Xol was found and claimed to have been the victim of an assault that took place the night prior.
After police found that Gonzales was a suspect, they booking him at the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio, Calif. He is reportedly being held without bail and is facing murder charges.
Xol joined ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Editon” (hosted by Ty Pennington) during Season 2, which premiered in 2004.
He left the show after Season 8 in 2011.
Xol was also a singer and actor. According to his IMDb, he was in several Televisa telenovelas in the 1990s, including “Acapulco, Cuerpo y Alma,” “Sentimientos Ajenos” and “La Jaula de Oro.”
Xol’s friend, Richard Pérez-Fería, honored the late star with an emotional Instagram post on Sept. 22.
“It’s nearly incomprehensible that I’m writing this post as a goodbye to someone who has been so present, so important in my life,” Pérez-Fería wrote. “When I first learned that Eduardo Xol had passed, I went numb. It was impossible to process that information as it didn’t square with my thousands of experiences with him.”
He continued, “Please don’t ask me how or why at this point…what matters most is who he was: A talented, beautiful, passionate friend, brother, son and partner. The millions of laughs, hopes and secrets we shared remain at the fore of my thoughts. I want to honor my dear friend and celebrate his life as one that mattered to so many. He certainly mattered to me.”
“Sending healing love at this horrific time to his circle of friends and family who loved him so,” Pérez-Fería added. “Sadly, tomorrow isn’t promised.”
