Republican vice-presidential candidate JD Vance took a swipe at singer Taylor Swift after she publicly endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.
Swift, in an Instagram post, praised Harris as a “steady-handed, gifted leader” and humorously referred to herself as a “childless cat lady,” a remark seemingly aimed at Vance, who had once mocked certain Democrats with the same phrase during a 2021 interview.
Vance responded to Swift’s endorsement on Fox News, stating, “We admire Taylor Swift’s music, but I don’t think most Americans…are going to be influenced by a billionaire celebrity who is fundamentally disconnected from the interests and the problems of most Americans.”
He further criticised Swift, noting that while average Americans are affected by rising grocery and housing prices, “it doesn’t hurt Taylor Swift or any other billionaire.”
Swift’s post, which got nearly 10 million likes, encouraged her followers to do their research before making voting decisions. Meanwhile, Vance dismissed her influence, positioning himself as aligned with the struggles of everyday Americans.
