MEL GIBSON. That is Mel Gibson up there, next to Vince Vaughn and in board shorts, looking like he crashed this party on his way back from the beach. As you know, these Hollywood Walk of Fame stars are paid for, usually to promote whatever project the celeb is currently in; that’s often why the speakers and guests are limited, because they’re plucked from that same project or something else recent. It’s rarely a This Is Your Life moment where people who are super important to you show up for this momentous achievement. But if I played a career word association game with Vince Vaughn, there are a LOT of names that would have come out of my mouth, and none of them are Mel Gibson’s??? I guess Vince is in 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge, and they were in something called Dragged Against Concrete together, but…?!??! Mel Gibson is a REAL CHOICE. Do we think Vince himself made it?????
It’s doubly weird becayse none of his screen colleagues on his new TV show Bad Monkey — Jodie Turner-Smith, Meredith Hagner, Rob Delaney, Michelle Monaghan — seem to have been on this guest list, though you’ll see producer Bill Lawrence up there on the right, alongside Peter Billingsley, now a prolific producer and sometime director whom you might know first as Ralphie from A Christmas Story. Neither of them seem to have posed with Mel. Strategic? We may never know, but at least they changed out of their swim trunks.
