Eddie Murphy tells the story about being offered cocaine by Robin Williams and John Belushi

Eddie Murphy had one of his big breaks while appearing on Saturday Night Live which introduced him to many legendary people from the world of entertainment, including cast member John Belushi and extraordinary actor and comedian Robin Williams.

Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams and John Belushi were good friends

Eddie Murphy recalled the SNL times during The Interview podcast from the New York Times. While talking about the 1980s, Murphy recalled how two of the most respected comedy individuals invited him to do cocaine.

According to Murphy, the three of them went to a bar when he was only 19 “It was me, [John] Belushi and Robin Williams, they start doing coke, and I was like, ‘No, I’m cool.’ “

He remembered why he did not accept the invitation “I wasn’t taking some moral stance. I just wasn’t interested in it. To not have the desire or the curiosity, I’d say that’s providence.” While adding “God was looking over me in that moment,”.

Murphy said that, especially as an up-and-coming comedian, he did not want to do anything that could

The Beverly Hills Cop recalled that he did not want anything to put his success in danger “When you get famous really young, especially a Black artist, it’s like living in a minefield, at any moment, you could step on a mine. Any moment, something could happen that can undo everything.”

“Just imagine being a young person and having the world placed at your feet,” he said. “Nobody’s saying ‘no,’ and everybody wants to be around you. You try all types of s— and get caught up in all kinds of stuff.” He added, “That’s what destroys people,”.

John Belushi died young of an overdose in 1982 at age 33, while Williams took his own life back in 2014 he’d been struggling with severe depression throughout his life.

Eddie confessed “I don’t drink, I smoked a joint for the first time when I was 30 years old. The extent of drugs is some weed.”
