The first game of the Yankees and Mets Subway series battle this season brought out many luminaries from different career fields on Tuesday night at Citi Field.
Former Mets Matt Harvey and Mike Piazza were in attendance as well as Gary Sheffield, Dwight Gooden and Darryl Strawbery, who played for both New York teams.
Celebrities Kenny Smith, Guy Fieri, Mike Francesa and Bill O’Reilly also took in the game from Queens.
The 2024 NBA Draft also had a presence at the game, as Kentucky guard Reed Sheppard, who many project to be a top-five pick, threw out the first pitch.
The stars and celebrities saw a Subway Series battle, won 9-7 by the Mets, that had a bit of everything.
The Amazin’s hit four home runs off Yankees ace Gerrit Cole, who allowed six runs in just four innings, to race out to a big lead.
But Mets fans had to sweat it out after Aaron Judge belted a grand slam in the eighth inning to pull the Yankees within two, 9-7, but the Amazin’s held on to win the first of two games at Citi Field by that score.
Judge, who had five RBIs in the loss, now has the MLB lead in homers (29) and RBIs (75), but it wasn’t enough for the reeling Yankees who are 3-7 in their past 10 games.
