Several well-known figures failed to gain enough votes at the provincial-level today to advance to the national-level voting for senators.
Some of the senatorial candidates in Bangkok who lost out included former election commissioner Somchai Srisutthiyakorn, former Special Branch officer Santhana Prayoonrat, Yutthapichai Charnlekha, Sonthiya Sawasdee, Nuttaa Mahattana, Phongsakorn Mahapaoraya and Dr. Rienthong Nanna, director of Mongkut Wattana Hospital, who opted out of drawing tie-break lots to find candidates to advance to the next round of voting on June 26th.
In other provinces, well-known candidates who lost are Chakraphan Yomchinda and political activist Veera Somkwamkid.
In Chiang Mai, however, former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat, brother-in-law of paroled former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, advanced to the national-level vote.
Full results of provincial-level voting are expected to be announced tonight, or tomorrow at the latest.
