Love Island returned with a bang on Monday evening as Joey Essex was revealed as this series’ first bombshell.
In what may be the biggest signing in the show’s history, the TOWIE star, 33, is the first celebrity contestant to enter the villa.
And his entrance has sparked a new theory with fans as they took to Twitter to share their predictions on what the producers have planned for this series.
While ITV producers have stressed the importance of the bombshells this series, fans suggested that perhaps every bombshell entering is going to be a celebrity, and Joey is in fact the first of many.
Explaining their theory, they wrote: ‘The #LoveIsland producers said today that “this series is all about the bombshells, they’re the main characters this year” – do we think they’re all celebs? Who else would do it’
Another penned: ‘Ok so the twist is that the bombshells are mostly “celebs”, this is what they meant when they said bombshells would be the main characters. Got it’.
Fans then began to guess which other celebrities they think would head to the villa on the search for the one as they predicted fellow star Pete Wicks could also be entering.
‘Pete Wicks for sure’; ‘Can I place a fiver on Tallia Storm, please? I will add Pete Wicks as another prediction. Basically any celeb who’s been on Celebs Go Dating.’
Others wrote: ‘I heard a rumour that Davide was back as a bombshell…’; ‘Chloe ferry would not surprise me’.
While in the past previous Love Island contestants Adam Collard and Kady McDermott have returned for another chance in the villa, this is the first time Love Island bosses have landed a celebrity in its original lineup.
Joey is known to viewers as one of TOWIE’s original stars, followed by stints on Dancing On Ice, Celebs Go Dating and I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here!
However other viewers predicted his entrance was a one off to draw in viewers at the start of the series.
One explained: ‘I think this may just be a one-off tbh, I mean it’s all-but 100% confirmed that there are two non-celeb girl bombshells waiting in the wings that’ll arrive later this week.’
Another added: ‘I swear if they bring in all celebs, like what, that’s so boring to me. We already know some people are going to choose the celebrity to get more fame.’
Other viewers joked: ‘Nah this isn’t it, it’s not celebs go dating’; ‘I’m switching off if Adam Collard goes back in that’s for sure!’
Another even suggested producers could be gearing up for an all celebrity version of the show as they wrote: ‘I think this is them testing our reactions for a possible all celeb love island in the future
While another asked: ‘Are they that desperate to pull in viewings they have to result in celebrities now?’
MailOnline revealed that bosses took ‘every precaution’ to keep Joey’s entry into the villa a secret.
While the rest of the singletons were flown out to Mallorca, the reality star was forced to travel by ferry to keep his appearance under wraps.
Joey’s arrival was unveiled in the final moments of Monday’s launch show, with host Maya Jama confirming he would be arriving to shake up the six couples.
The twist left many viewers aghast, and they were quick to flood social media with their reactions.
