(The Hill) — Some of former President Trump’s most prominent celebrity backers are decrying his conviction by a New York jury in his criminal hush money case, calling the verdict “disgusting.”
Trump was found guilty on Thursday of all 34 counts of falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment his then-fixer, Michael Cohen, made to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election. Prosecutors had argued that the move was to keep secret Trump’s alleged affair with Daniels until after Election Day. Trump has denied the affair and had pleaded not guilty.
“Absolute chaos by the state of New York and the federal government,” Caitlyn Jenner, the former Olympian-turned-reality TV star, wrote on X shortly after the Trump verdict was read.
“The United States is a banana republic under the Biden [Department of Justice.] Disgusting! Hope the court of appeals steps in with swift action,” Jenner, 74, said.
The Fox News contributor later shared an all-caps message, saying, “THE ONLY VERDICT THAT MATTERS IS THE VOTE OF WE THE PEOPLE, OF THE USA, ON NOVEMBER 5 2024!”
“Deuce Bigalow” actor Rob Schneider wrote to his more than 1.7 million X followers, “And just like that… A former President of the United States has been hounded and found guilty by biased Democrats. Now the Republicans will have to retaliate against Democrats when they regain power.”
Schneider has said he voted for Trump in 2016 and has voiced support in the 2024 White House race for independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.
The “Saturday Night Live” alum continued his social media post with a plea: “I appeal to ALL AMERICANS TO REFRAIN FROM VIOLENCE,” and included the hashtag #NoCivilWar.
“Independence Day’s” Randy Quaid also came to Trump’s defense following the conviction, writing, “America will vote even bigger for Trump now. #DrainTheSwamp #MAGA“
