Fans going to see their favorite celebrities off at the airport have long been a thing. With the rise of the Hallyu wave, things seem to be getting out of hand. Although it used to only be the diehard fans that go to the airport, in recent years, crowds have been increasing.
Most recently, actress Kim Ji Won was practically mobbed while trying to get out of the airport. Not only was she swarmed by reporters, but hundreds of fans crowded her as soon as she landed. Her recent fame with Queen of Tears played a hand.
Korean Netizens Shocked By “Queen Of Tears” Kim Ji Won’s Horrifying Airport Arrival
Netizens soon realized that the date of stars’ flights were often revealed to the public through news outlets’ YouTube channels. While buying information like sasaengs used to be the only way to obtain such information, these days, the information is widely spread through news outlets. Reporters often do live streams for celebrities’ arrivals and departures, and they would post preview links before the arrival. This gives fans plenty of time to make it down to the airport.
Not only are fans and reporters a problem, but the rise of “daeri photographers” have also caused additional issues. These photographers sell photos of celebrities at various events to fans and fansites who cannot be there. They consider this their job and main source of income, leading to them attending every event they can, leading to higher crowds.
With many angles to the issue, netizens debated over the main cause of the high congestion.
- Well, they f*cking blamed the idols for causing it up to now LOL.
- It’s true that these preview links make it easier for people to go to the airport to see celebrities. I don’t think that we can say that the companies are the only ones who call the reporters over, because the reporters also keep doing this even when the celebrities are totally barefaced, in a mask, and unpresentable for arrivals.
- So then, why do they do preview links for when the celebrities come in and are totally barefaced and have no sponsored products to show off?
- If they wanted to not be photographed at arrivals, they totally can. It’s the companies that call reporters over.
- The crazy people who mob them are the problem. Normal kids either don’t go even if they see the preview links, or they don’t mob them.
- I wonder when this started. Now, preview links always pop up.
Previously, reporters did not do live streams of the arrivals or departures. It became a phenomenon in recent years, causing such issues to be exacerbated.
