Don’t Look Down sees celebrities complete stadium walk for SU2C

Tonight (November 3) saw the final instalment of Paddy McGuinness’s show Don’t Look Down – with the group completing a world-first high-wire walk over the London Stadium in aid of Stand Up to Cancer.

Joining the former Top Gear host for the challenge were Girls Aloud singer Kimberly Wyatt, reality star Chris Hughes, presenter Charley Boorman and influencer GK Barry.

Comedian Fats Timbo, Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton and ex-footballers Anton Ferdinand and David Ginola rounded out the group.

To complete the final task, the celebrities each had to walk a section of 60, 100, or 140ft. Despite falls from Anton and Fats, the whole group were able to complete their walks – inspired by the goal of raising money for their loved ones impacted by cancer.

“It really has been the best therapy to focus on doing something else and be around people who understand what it’s like,” Victoria said, reflecting on the loss of her twin brother Alex to a brain tumour. “I’m grateful for all of you.”

Finishing the walk was group captain Paddy, who calmly took on the last 140ft stretch and completed the challenge.

“A challenge like this you’re going to take on if it really means something to you,” he said.

“I’m extremely proud of this team. Every single person is here for their own personal reasons and every single one of them has had their own challenges to overcome to get on that wire.”

Coronation Street actress Beverley Callard had previously been set to complete the walk but was forced to exit the series early for medical reasons during training.

Revealing that she had to withdraw due to a kidney issue, the actress told her co-stars: “At some point I damaged my kidney and I’ve seen a doctor and I can’t wear a harness, I can’t do any sport at the moment and I’ve got to go.

“I am brokenhearted, I was loving it. I don’t want to go, I so badly don’t want to go.”
