Stars are starting to flee Elon Musk’s X behind for the Blue Sky social media platform following Donald Trump’s re-election as U.S. president.
The former Republican president defeated Democratic candidate Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election on November 5, but several celebrities waited until this week to make their exodus from X.
In addition, the British news outlet The Guardian wrote in a piece to its readers on Wednesday that it was leaving X, noting, “The US presidential election campaign served only to underline what we have considered for a long time: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse.”
Here’s a look at some of the celebrities who have left X.
Guillermo del Toro
The Shape of Water Oscar-winning director posted on Sunday that he’ll remain on X but that his account will be “mostly unused (drop in on occasion).”
“I will be more and more at Blue Sky @ realgdt.bsky.social. Stay Well,” del Tor also wrote.
Barbra Streisand
Screen legend Barbra Streisand wrote in her final post on X on Thursday, Effective immediately, any comments I post will be on Bluesky. #TwitterExodus.” The post included a link to Streisand’s Blue Sky account.
Lizzo
Pop star Lizzo didn’t include a message on X about leaving the platform. In her Wednesday post, she only included a shot of her Blue Sky profile.
Ben Stiller
Tropic Thunder and Zoolander star and director Ben Stiller kept his post about leaving X brief, writing, “Over on Blue Sky.”
Jamie Lee Curtis
According to Deadline, Everything Everywhere All at Once Oscar winner Jamie Lee Curtis deactivated her X account Wednesday and posted a screengrab of it on her Instagram account.
The post reads, “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change. Courage to change the things I can. And the wisdom to know the difference.”
George Takei
Star Trek star and prolific social media user George Takei promoted his Blue Sky social media account in an X post on Tuesday, writing, “Join me over where the skies are blue …”
Blue Sky Posted About Its Popularity On X
Ironically, Blue Sky celebrated celebrities’ X exodus on its X account Thursday with a brief clip of Margot Robbie dancing in Barbie.
On its X account, Blue Sky notes that it has 16 million users.
Per the BBC, Elon Musk has previously said that X has 250 million users.
