HBO responds to rumor that ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 is canceled

HBO has spoken out about the future of “Euphoria.”

Over the weekend, there were reports that the teen drama series starring Zendaya was canceled after two seasons.

However, HBO shut down those rumors in a statement to The Independent.

“Euphoria is going in to production in 2025,” a rep for the network said.

“Nothing has changed,” they added.

The Post has reached out to HBO for comment.

“Euphoria” has been on a long-hiatus since its second season finished airing in February 2022. The series originally debuted in 2019.

The show faced initial delays due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists strikes in Hollywood.

There was also scheduling conflicts among the star-studded cast which, in addition to Zendaya, includes Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Storm Reid and Colman Domingo.

During the show’s hiatus, star Angus Cloud died in July 2023 at the age of 25. His death was ruled an accidental overdose due to the combined effects of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and benzodiazepine.

But earlier this year, HBO confirmed that “Euphoria” Season 3 will begin production in January 2025, with all principal cast members set to reprise their roles.

“I am thrilled that we are ready to begin production on ‘Euphoria’ in January. We could not be happier with our creative partnership with Sam and this incredible cast,” Francesca Orsi, executive vice president of HBO programming and head of HBO drama series and films, said in a statement in July.

“We look forward to bringing this new season of ‘Euphoria’ to life for the fans,” Orsi added.

HBO CEO Casey Bloys previously said that there had been “a lot of back and forth” with creator Sam Levinson and the idea of a five-year time jump for the characters. 

“One of the issues I think that Sam is thinking about is that he doesn’t want to have it in high school anymore,” Bloys told Variety in June. “That’s where it was set and what made sense then.”

Zendaya, who is also an executive producer, most recently addressed the show’s return last month.

“I don’t actually know much about what is happening,” the 28-year-old told Entertainment Weekly. “I don’t quite know exactly what the season is going to look like, but I do know that the time jump is happening.” 

Zendaya went on, “To me, at least, it is [exciting], and it will be fascinating to see and understand these characters outside of the context of high school and how all the stuff that we saw when they were kids and they were in high school affects the kind of adulthood they have and who they become in a much bigger world. I’ll be interested to see what happens too.”

For her role as teenage drug addict Rue Bennett, Zendaya has won two Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and a Critics’ Choice Award.

Sweeney, who plays Cassie Howard, told People in September she’s “excited” to finally get back to the show.

“She is definitely one of the most special characters for me and I love my Euphoria family, so I look forward to it,” the actress added.
