Motor City Comic Con 2024 – Fall edition returns: Celebrities, cosplay, activities, more

A long list of celebrities, cosplay contests, gaming tournaments, exhibitors and more: Motor City Comic Con, a major event in Michigan’s pop culture scene, is back for its fall edition this weekend.

Held since 1989, Motor City Comic Con is the state’s largest and longest-running comic book and pop culture convention. Tens of thousands of fans attend each year — usually dressed as their favorite movie, TV and comic characters.

“The event will feature some of the largest actors from television, movies, and the streaming industry, along with the most creative artists, writers, and comic book creators in the industry,” according to a news release about the convention.

Here is what to know:

When and where is the upcoming Motor City Comic Con?

The 2024 fall edition will be held this weekend, Nov. 8-10, at the Suburban Collection Showplace at 46100 Grand River Ave. in Novi.

The convention takes place from noon until 7 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Some special events will be held at Emagine Novi at44425 W. 12 Mile Rd.

Activities, contests and iconic characters

At Motor City Comic Con, fans can enjoy a range of free panel discussions and special events, and browse various exhibitors and artisan booths offering unique items and art for purchase.

“Artists, writers, and illustrators will be featured throughout Artist Alley over the three-day convention and celebrity and comic guests will be available for autograph and photograph opportunities,” according to the release.

During the fall edition, special events include “50 Years of Wolverine,” “Jurassic Park Screening with Wayne Knight,” and “A Nightmare on Elm Street with Robert Englund.”

Other celebrities attending include Priscilla Presley, Elvis Presley’s ex-wife who portrayed Jenna Wade on Dallas; Logic the rapper; Joel McHale from Community; Matthew Lewis who is known for playing Neville Longbottom in Harry Potter; Andy Serkis who played Gollum in Lorde of The Rings; Michigan-native and comedian Dave Coulier who played uncle Joey in Full House and much more. Autograph and photo prices vary, and celebrity appearances are subject to change or cancellation.

Free Anime screenings will be playing all weekend long.

A cosplay contest for anyone above age 13 and up will also be held on Saturday, at 5:30 p.m. The price to enter is $12 and contestants have a chance to win various prizes.

  • First place will win $500, two three-day passes for the May 2025 convention, two autographed photos and an exclusive bag filled with goodies.
  • The second-place winner will receive $250, two one-day passes for May 2025, one autographed photo and a Motor City Comic Con bag.
  • The third-place winner will take home $125, two 1-day passes, one autographed photo and a Motor City Comic Con bag.

Another coplay contest for children ages 12 and under will be held on Sunday; participation is free.

Convention and special event tickets

Motor City Comic Con admission tickets vary in price from day to day. Weekend-long and VIP fan passes are available for purchase as well.

Fans can buy tickets online or at the door, if available.

Adult passes are priced at $30 online and $40 at the door on Friday, $45 online and $50 at the door on Saturday and $40 online and $45 at the door on Sunday. Adult weekend passes are available for $90 online or $95 at the door. Children’s tickets, ages 6-12, are $10 online and $20 at the door on both Friday and Saturday, with children’s weekend passes costing $20 online and $30 at the door.

“At the door pricing may appear higher, but is less than or equal to our online tickets after processing fees,” according to Motor City Comic Con’s website.

Children under 5 are free all weekend. Sunday is Kid’s Day, where all children under the age of 12 are free with the entrance of a paid adult.

Convention attendees who would like to participate in the special events must purchase separate tickets to enter, in addition to admission tickets. Attendees will also have to pay to participate in other activities such as the main cosplay contest, a tabletop game room, a horror escape room, a Super Smash Brothers gaming tournament and an after party at The Hub Stadium in Novi.
