Katharine McPhee has no qualms with her husband David Foster’s milestone new age.
While the “American Idol” alum turned 45 earlier this year, the music producer reached age 75 last Friday, and the couple celebrated over the weekend at a star-studded concert at the Hollywood Bowl.
McPhee told People at the event that the pair don’t fear their new ages.
“Honestly, I think that we’re both very similar in this way,” she said. “I welcomed my 40s, and David didn’t have any conversations about, like, ‘Oh, I can’t believe I’m 75,’ or I didn’t say, like, ‘Oh, I can’t believe I’m 40. I’m really mourning that.’”
“We didn’t do any of that,” the “Over It” singer continued. “So, we’re kind of both cut from the same cloth. It’s like we sort of just accept life as it comes, and we’re not fighting getting older, because it just keeps getting better.”
McPhee and Foster tied the knot in 2019 and welcomed a son named Rennie in 2021.
Before McPhee, the Grammy-winning record producer was married four times, to B.J. Cook, Rebecca Dyer, Linda Thompson, and Yoland Hadid.
In addition to son Rennie, Foster has five daughters: Allison, 54, Amy, 51, Sara, 43, Erin, 42, and Jordan, 39.
At his 75th birthday party, Foster co-signed McPhee’s comments about them not putting too much thought into their milestone birthdays.
“She’s fine, and I don’t even think about it either,” he said. “You know, I’m just groovin’.”
McPhee first met Foster when she appeared on Season 5 of “American Idol” in 2006. They officially got together in 2017, after McPhee’s divorce from husband Nick Cokas.
The “Smash” star has defended her 30-year age gap with Foster since the start of their romance.
“We all have the ability to label things and to look at something for the way that it looks or face value and make a judgment,” she said on Dr. Berlin’s Informed Pregnancy Podcast in 2021. “So I totally get the judgment initially, but things are never as they appear, things are never exactly as they appear and I’m in love with our love story and that’s all that matters.”
McPhee added, “There was never one day that I ever doubted my decision to be with him. Even if we had an argument or whatever, I’m so crazy in love with him and so grateful. …I loved being around him before we were even married.”
Earlier this year, the couple’s relationship was in the headlines thanks to a resurfaced video that showed Foster calling McPhee “fat” at a concert performance of the their first show together.
McPhee told the crowd she “was a little chubby” when she first met her future husband and pointed up to an old photo of herself on a big screen.
Foster then said, “Oh yeah – you were fat.”
Foster came under fire online for his comment, but he never publicly addressed the backlash.
