“General Hospital” fans rejoice because the Spencer family is back!
Genie Francis, who played the iconic Laura Spencer on the daytime soap show, is returning to the silver screen next week to reunite with her TV son, Lucky (Jonathan Jackson), The Post can confirm.
This will be the first time the mother-son pair have reunited onscreen since 2015.
Soap Opera Digest was the first to break the news on Friday, Oct. 4.
Francis has been shooting scenes for weeks, with her first episode airing on Wednesday, October 9, reported the outlet. The long-awaited reunion between Laura and Lucky will allegedly play out through the week.
The Daytime Emmy winner, 62, has starred as the legendary character since 1977 and appeared in over 1,700 episodes of “General Hospital.”
Her character, Laura, quickly became a fan favorite and is best known for her romance with Luke Spencer (played by Anthony Geary). The super couple eventually went their separate ways but not before welcoming two TV children together during their marriage: son Lucky and daughter Lulu.
In June, it was revealed that Jackson, 42, would return to “General Hospital” to play Lucky for what Entertainment Weekly described as a long stint. He made his soap debut on the series in 1993 at 11 years old.
The five-time Daytime Emmy winner’s character originally left Port Charles in 1999 but returned to the show in 2009 and 2015.
In August, Jackson teased what “General Hospital” fans can expect from Lucky’s return.
“In 2010 when I came back, he was a cop and he was trying to create an identity for himself, and in some ways in opposition to his father,” he explained of his character. “I don’t exactly know where he is now because we’re just kind of beginning but it just feels like he’s become a little bit more like his father as time has gone on.”
Jackson first exited the show in 1999. He came back in 2009 for two years before departing to play Avery Barkley on the country music drama “Nashville.”
While Lucky’s TV mom is set to return, the same can’t be said for his onscreen father. Geary’s character was tragically killed off in a cable car accident in 2022, marking the end of an era.
This isn’t Francis’ first comeback.
She left “General Hospital” in 2002 after her character suffered a psychotic breakdown and believed she murdered her adoptive dad.
After a year stint on the rival soap show “The Young and the Restless,” Francis returned in 2013. Francis was brought back as a series regular in 2018.
“I’m looking forward to coming home and I am really excited about this new invigorating storyline they have for Laura. I look forward to the next chapter of this prolific and historic character,” Francis told TV Insider at the time.
The Post has reached out to the actress’ rep for comment.
Francis’ return comes amid cast shakeups, with Kelly Monaco being the most recent “General Hospital” star meet her demise.
“General Hospital” airs on ABC daily at 2 p.m. ET.
