Lisa Marie Presley had a sixth sense about her dad Elvis Presley’s final day.
The King of Rock and Roll died unexpectedly in August 1977 at his Graceland estate at 42. While the world was shocked to learn the devastating news, Lisa Marie — who was only 9 at the time — felt that her father wouldn’t be around much longer.
Her daughter, actress Riley Keough, 35, delivered the bombshell that Lisa Marie “had some kind of a sense” about Elvis’ death when she said goodnight to him for the final time in an exclusive interview with Oprah Winfrey.
The talk show veteran, 70, sat down with Elvis’ granddaughter to discuss her life, her famous family and her mother’s forthcoming memoir titled “From Here to the Great Unknown,” which she helped put together after Lisa Marie’s shocking death on Jan. 12, 2023, based on audio tapes the latter left behind.
Speaking candidly to Winfrey at Elvis’ Graceland mansion for “An Oprah Special: The Presleys — Elvis, Lisa Marie and Riley,” which drops on Tuesday, Oct. 8, Keough shared her mother’s instinct about the “Jailhouse Rock” crooner’s passing.
“The morning of Elvis’ death your mother woke up and knew instinctively that something was off. You want to tell us about that? She’s nine years old and most of us remember when we were nine years old,” Oprah said, opening the conversation.
“Yeah, definitely. I think this is the first time she’s ever talked in detail about his death in the book,” Keough responded.
“She said goodnight to him and I think she knew saying ‘goodnight’: like she had some kind of a sense – I think she had a sense many times that he wasn’t okay.”
According to the “Daisy Jones & The Six” actress, Lisa Marie was often worried about her famous father.
“She would tell me that sometimes she would find him in his bathroom looking kind of out of it or holding onto the railing to stand up straight,” she shared with Oprah in a teaser posted on Instagram.
Keough also shared a heartbreaking letter that Lisa Marie wrote when she was young.
“She also write these letters when she was little that we have kind of saying, ‘I hope my daddy doesn’t die,’” she said.
“So there was some kind of sense there,” Keough stated.
During the interview, one of Lisa Marie’s letters was shown. It read, “I love my mommy and daddy and I hope you gis [sic] don’t die.”
Keough confirmed to Oprah that Graceland was often chaotic, adding, “But upstairs was only her and her dad. I think she got a lot of intimate time up there with him. No one else was up there.”
Lisa Marie was Elvis’ only child. The “Burning Love” singer and his then-wife, Priscilla Presley, welcomed the only child they share on February 1, 1968.
She passed away in 2023 at 54 from a small bowel obstruction.
Lisa Marie was home when Elvis’ then-fiancée, Ginger Alden, discovered his naked body on the floor of his master bathroom at Graceland. She reportedly saw her father’s lifeless body.
Elvis’ official cause of death was a heart attack. Former top-ranking Scientologist Karen de la Carriere, who counseled Lisa Marie after Elvis’ passing, said the singer’s daughter later “drowned herself in drugs for years” over the trauma she sustained from the tragedy.
This is Keough’s first in-depth interview since Lisa Marie’s death.
