Daily Dirt: Some celebrities find themselves in hairy situations

Daily Dirt for Friday, Sept. 6, 2024

McConaughey, Pitt and Pacino’s looks are seamless, but not so much for the likes of Norris, James, John, Travolta and McGraw … Welcome to today’s three thoughts that make up Vol. 1,051 of The Daily Dirt

1. It’s no secret that some leading male celebrities wear hairpieces, or outright wigs, to camouflage their folically challenged domes. John Travolta and Elton John immediately come to mind, but did you know the following stars also incorporate faux hair?

  • Matthew McConaughey
  • Brad Pitt
  • Al Pacino
  • Kevin James
  • Pat Sajak
  • Chuck Norris
  • Tim McGraw
  • Nicolas Cage
  • Ashton Kutcher

Those fellows listed above use pretty extensive and well-conceived pieces, weaves and toupees.

The people on this list have had relatively minor work done on selective areas:

  • Daniel Craig (until Craig, the late Sean Connery had been the best-known James Bond to use a hairpiece or toupee)
  • Charlie Sheen
  • Robert Pattinson
  • Kevin Costner
  • Hugh Laurie

2. Did you know (Part 114) …

  • Budding Cincinnati Reds superstar Elly De La Cruz entered play earlier this week with a .261 batting average, 61 RBIs, 61 stolen bases, 61 extra-base hits and 61 walks.
  • Residential lawns in the U.S. receive about 9 billion gallons of water each day via their sprinkling systems.
  • The fastest badminton serve ever recorded was 351 mph. That’s badminton, not tennis.
  • More than 90 percent of the U.S. population growth since 2020 has come from Hispanics.
  • Michael Jordan missed 12,345 shots in his NBA career. (That’s 1-2-3-4-5.)
  • The average American buys 53 pieces of new clothing each year.
  • Blackberries represented 43 percent of all smartphones sold in 2010. By 2013, that number shrunk to 5 percent.
  • 70 percent of conjoined twins are female. (Conjoined twins occur once every 50,000 to 60,000 births.)
  • Women outlive men by an average of 7 years. Must be all the stress we endure.

3. These guys obviously don’t miss many meals. Take a look at the size of this year’s starting offensive line at USC:

  • Left tackle: Elijah Paige, 6-foot-7, 320 pounds
  • Left guard: Emmanuel Pregnon, 6-foot-5, 320 pounds
  • Center: Jonah Monheim, 6-foot-5, 310 pounds
  • Right guard: Alani Noa, 6-foot-4, 335 pounds
  • Right tackle: Mason Murphy, 6-foot-5, 315 pounds

Steve Thought O’ The Day

I had no clue about this until a few days ago when doing some MLB research. Joe DiMaggio was not elected to the Hall of Fame until his third year of eligibility in 1955. Yes, the same DiMaggio who played in every inning of every All-Star Game from 1936-42, played in just 13 seasons but won nine World Series and had a 56-game hitting streak in 1941. During that record hit streak, he batted .408 with 15 home runs and only struck out five times. He also had a 61-game hit streak in the minors. For his career, DiMaggio hit 361 homers and struck out just 369 times in more than 7,600 plate appearances. (In case you were wondering, players elected to the Hall of Fame in 1953 and 1954 were Dizzy Dean, Al Simmons, Bill Dickey, Rabbit Maranville and Bill Terry.)

Steve Eighinger writes daily for Muddy River News. As you can see by his photo, he does not use hairpieces, wigs or toupees.

What do you think?
