Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson Have Reportedly Split—Here’s What Went Wrong

Update, August 16, 2024: TMZ claims that Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson breakup reports are “nothing but a false alarm.” A rep for Dakota also confirmed that she and Chris are “happily together.”

Original story, August 16, 2024: Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson have reportedly ended their relationship after a summer of ups and downs.

As a reminder, an insider told People back in June that Dakota and Chris were in a good place and “going strong” amid breakup rumors. They added that the couple has “had ups and downs, but now they’re definitely back on.”

Welp. It seems as though things changed in the past few months because the Daily Mail is now out here reporting that the Coldplay frontman and Madame Web actor are done for good after seven years together.

“Chris and Dakota have tried desperately hard over the past few months to make their relationship work,” a source tells the outlet. “They’ll always have love for each other but they’ve both come to the conclusion the relationship cannot be sustained long-term. They’re both busy people, Chris has been in Europe with Coldplay and they both have personal priorities, passions, and work commitments which don’t naturally intertwine with each other. They wanted it to work but it just hasn’t, and they’ve now accepted it is best to move on.”

Meanwhile, the mag *also* notes that Dakota is no longer wearing her emerald engagement ring.

At this point, neither Chris nor Dakota has commented on the reported split, but that’s not exactly surprising given the fact that they’ve remained incredibly private about their vibes since first getting together in 2017. For a full timeline of their relationship (and all the ups and downs!) head…
