Blake Lively has given a strong nod to Britney Spears with an eye-catching dress at her latest movie premiere.
Lively attended the “It Ends With Us” premiere in New York wearing a one-strap Versace dress that was once worn by Spears. The dress is a translucent look with glittery splashes of pink, purple, green and blue.
The tribute comes after Britney’s best-selling memoir, which now looks set to become a biopic, with TMZ reporting that the pop star has had the final say on who will play here in the big screen portrayal.
Spears wore the dress back in 2002 at the Versace show in Milan, Italy, and Lively said it was meaningful to her to wear the dress because Spears is someone who has represented “love, beauty, youth, hard work, determination, strength, sexuality and delicacy.”
She wrote on social media: “The ultimate queen who made us all want to sparkle and write and share our stories. Britney, us millennials all have a story of a moment or of years that you made us want to shine and inspire awe, with strength, and joy and immensely hard work. Thank you for your example and your contribution to women telling their stories. So excited about your biopic and all you have to come.”
The former Gossip Girl star said she pounced on the dress once it became available and has been waiting for six months to wear it.
She added that she would love to be considered for the role as Britney in the new film, but she also made it clear that she shouldn’t be.
Lively’s new role
Lively plays Lily Bloom in the new “It Ends With Us” movie, which is based on the best-selling romance novel by Colleen Hoover.
Justin Baldoni is the director behind the movie, and he also features in one of the starring roles as Ryle Kincaid. The movie premiered in New York this week, with Lively attending along with husband Ryan Reynolds and his close friend and fellow movie star Hugh Jackman.
Reynolds and Jackman feature alongside each other in the new “Deadpool & Wolverine” movie that amassed $824.1 million in early box office ticket sales.
