Thomas Matthew Crooks researched other major celebrities before Donald Trump

The man who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump had previously researched Kate Middleton online, it has been revealed.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, 18, had used the internet to “scope out” a number of potential high-profile targets before executing his devastating plan, which resulted in one fatality and two serious injuries.

Images of Princess Kate were found on his devices, according to an FBI analysis of his laptop and two mobile phones.

National Public Radio reported that pictures of Kate were discovered on his phone, but the reason for his interest in the Royal remains unclear.

Investigations also revealed that Crooks’ devices contained images of President Joe Biden and Mr Trump, as well as dates for upcoming rallies and the Democratic National Convention, set to take place in Chicago next month, reports the Express US.

Crooks had also searched for Christopher Wray, the director of the FBI, and Merrick Garland, the US Attorney General.

US senators were informed that the young assailant had posted on the gaming network Steam: ‘July 13 will be my premiere, watch as it unfolds. ‘.

The shooting was seemingly planned just days ahead, with Crooks visiting a local club the day prior and practising at the rifle range, as per a federal intelligence briefing.

On the day of the attack, he purchased 50 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition for his rifle from a local gun shop and drove alone to Butler, Pennsylvania, the location of the Trump rally.

Crooks, who was employed as a dietary aide at a nursing home, reportedly requested the day off on the day of the shooting, promising to return the following day, according to sources.

Marcie Grimm, the administrator of Bethel Park Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, expressed her shock and sadness upon learning of his involvement in a statement. She further added that Crooks had passed a background check when he was hired.

The motive behind Crook’s attack remains unclear, however, state voting records indicate that he was a registered Republican voter.

The FBI has stated that they believe Crooks, who had bomb-making materials in his car at the rally, acted alone, labelling him a “lone wolf”.
