5 Celebrities Helping to Combat Food Poverty

LIVERPOOL, United Kingdom — Food poverty is a significant global issue, with more than three billion people, 43% of the global population, finding themselves unable to afford a nutritious diet in 2021. With this amount of people struggling to access the food they need to lead a healthy lifestyle, the work of organizations fighting to prevent world hunger is increasingly important.

The World Food Programme (WFP) is an example of an initiative that works around the globe, from Afghanistan to Cameroon to Ukraine and more, operating on the simple mission of making sure that nobody has to fight to be fed.

The organization visits countries facing food poverty and works tirelessly to help combat the problem, providing balanced and nutritious meals for those in need and helping to restore patches of land damaged by drought and other extreme conditions to allow crops to thrive. It also trains farmers in techniques that will enable them to bring in a plentiful harvest and make the most of their land. However, the WFP cannot run on goodwill alone, which is why many kindhearted celebrities have become ambassadors for the organization to help make food poverty a thing of the past. From actors to musicians to fashion designers and more, here are five celebrity ambassadors of the WFP using their celebrity status to help prevent food poverty:

Son Heung-Min

Son Heung-Min may be well-known for his roles as captain of South Korea’s national soccer team and British Premier League squad Tottenham’s spectacular goal-scoring forward. However, he is also one of the WFP’s superstar ambassadors, doing his part to help the organization continue its work in preventing food poverty.

Kate Hudson

The hugely talented, multi-award-winning actress Kate Hudson is another ambassador for the WFP’s fight against food poverty. Her charitable work does not end there, though. She is also an ambassador for many other organizations, such as Operation Smile. Based in the United Kingdom (U.K.), Operation Smile is an organization that helps children with cleft palates in developing countries access surgical treatment to rectify this potentially life-threatening issue.

Michael Kors

World-renowned fashion designer Michael Kors is another famous face working to help prevent food poverty. Kors launched Watch Hunger Stop in 2013, a philanthropic campaign working with the WFP and remains an ambassador for the organization even now. Since its inception, Watch Hunger Stop has helped the WFP deliver more than 30 million school meals to underprivileged children.

Daniel Brühl

The talented actor Daniel Brühl, known for his roles in Marvel Cinematic Universe projects such as “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” and the hugely successful Quentin Tarantino movie “Inglourious Basterds,” is also a Goodwill Ambassador for the WFP, using his status as an actor to help the efforts the organization makes in its mission to lessen the extent of global food poverty.

George Stroumboulopoulos

George Stroumboulopoulos has many roles: television and radio interviewer, actor and music producer and ambassador for the WFP. He was the first Canadian to become an ambassador for the organization fighting food poverty. He is also a supporter of other charitable organizations, such as Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ). Based in the United States (U.S.) and Canada, APJ provides children in Haiti with an education, giving them the tools they need to have a successful career in the future.

Final Remark

The WPF does incredible work in helping to prevent food poverty in developing countries and many celebrities have taken up ambassadorships to ensure that it can continue to do its vital job and reach more people in need. It’s reassuring to know that despite their positions of status and success, some celebrities are still concerned about issues impacting those who are less fortunate than themselves.
