20 celebrities who have had near-death experiences

Bethenny Frankel keeps her EpiPen on her at all times after her near-death experience. The reality star is highly allergic to fish, and after accidentally eating some, she became unconscious and was hospitalized for two days. 

Sometimes, people don’t know that they’re allergic to something, and things get scary. Such was the case for Jane Seymour, who went into anaphylactic shock from an antibiotic she was given to treat bronchitis. 

When Orlando Bloom was younger, the Pirates of the Caribbean star fell three stories and broke his spine. Although he had to wear a back brace for months, he didn’t die, nor was he paralyzed. 

As a kid in Australia, Liam Hemsworth almost drowned. The actor got wrapped in a rope, which pulled him into the water, where he could not get up. Thankfully, he could return to the surface and get untangled from the rope.

Once upon a time, David Arquette was a professional wrestler. During one match, the star took a lightbulb to the neck. The accidental stabbing caused him temporary confusion, deafness, and blindness, and he had to have surgery on the wound. 

When Sharon Stone was a teenager, the actress suffered a cut on her neck that barely missed her jugular vein. She’s also gotten struck by lightning, been thrown across a kitchen, and survived a massive stroke. Stone is nothing if not a survivor. 

Leonardo DiCaprio has had multiple near-death experiences. While scuba diving in the Galapagos Islands, the actor’s oxygen tank malfunctioned. Thankfully, his friend Edward Norton saw what was happening and provided him with some air so he could get to the surface. DiCaprio has also survived a shark attack and was almost in a plane crash. 

Gary Busey nearly died after a horrific motorcycle accident in the late ‘80s. Busey claims he did die after undergoing brain surgery, and while in a different realm, he was told that he still had life left to live. 

Elizabeth Taylor’s near-death experience was not unlike Gary Busey’s. Around the height of her fame, Taylor contracted pneumonia. She had to have surgery, and she was dead for several minutes. The star claimed that her late husband, Mike Todd, told her she wasn’t done living yet. 

Multiple celebrities have been on planes that had to make emergency landings, but Travis Barker was in a legitimate plane crash. Barker was left with second- and third-degree burns, and four people on board died. 

Living life on the edge can get you into dangerous situations. While in London, Zac Efron got up one morning to work out with Hugh Jackman. The two rode bikes through traffic, and Efron was almost hit by a double-decker bus. 

While in the Dominican Republic for a film project, Josh Duhamel would often take a swim in a cove nestled on his hotel’s property. One night, the waves were bad, and a large one overtook the actor, nearly sending him over a cliff. Duhamel was caught by some coral, leaving him with some scrapes on his legs. 

Emilia Clarke has had multiple brain aneurysms that nearly took her life and required hospitalization. Clarke stated that she wasn’t going to let the incidents stop her from acting, so she continued working through the subsequent trauma.

Most celebrity near-death experiences don’t make national news, but Tracy Morgan’s did. The comedian got into a horrible car accident that resulted in a traumatic brain injury. It took Morgan months in the hospital to recover. 

While surfing by herself, Amy Schumer got into a horrible accident where the fin of her board went into her leg. The comedian pulled the fin out of her leg, then she made it back to the beach, where a man saved her life by holding her wound together until paramedics arrived. 

Gerard Butler’s near-death experience also involved surfing. While participating in the sport, Butler was overcome by the water and pulled across a rocky reef. The actor recalled being unable to get out of the water, and after he was saved, he was taken to the hospital. 

Eminem nearly died from an overdose. The rapper was addicted to prescription drugs, and after the incident, he got clean. The star has been sober for well over a decade. 

Demi Lovato nearly died from drugs as well. The singer went unconscious after overdosing on prescription meds. Her assistant found her and called for paramedics, who made it just in time to revive Lovato. The almost deadly relapse prompted Lovato to recommit to sobriety. 

If there’s any celebrity you’d expect to have a near-death experience, it’s probably Jackie Chan. The actor, who famously performs most of his own stunts, has suffered multiple intense injuries from his work, but one left him with a cracked skull and a bone in his brain.

The entire cast of Jackāss would probably be a close second guess for celebrities who’ve almost certainly had a near-death experience. Steve-O once fell off a balcony and broke his skull. Multiple people saw it happen and assumed he was dead.
