The 6 best moments from the MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball Game in Arlington

The MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball Game marked the final event of All-Star Saturday in Arlington, bringing together musicians, athletes and media personalities for a fun exhibition at Globe Life Field.

The 28 celebrities taking part split into National League and American League squads with the NL, coached by Deion Sanders, taking the win 12-10 after five innings. The NL squad was led by radio personality Bobby Bones, who won MVP after pitching all five innings and contributing on offense with an inside-the-park home run.

Marcello Hernandez’s Little League home run

Marcello Hernandez, best known for his time on Saturday Night Live, got the game started quickly with a single when he hit a ground ball through the gap for a single. He showed off his speed from there, scoring a classic Little League home run after two throwing errors from the American League team.

The rest of the game went on to be much like that early moment. The National League piled on the runs and the AL struggled to keep it together on defense.

Foreign Teck’s bomb and relay throw

Foreign Teck was one bright spot for the American League team Saturday. The music producer has worked with big names like Drake, Post Malone and Bad Bunny, and he had himself one heck of a night.

Teck kicked off a big night offensively with the game’s first home run, sending a pitch over the centerfield fence that gave his team their only lead of the night in the first inning. He topped that an inning later, hosing down The Kid Mero at home with a great relay throw from shallow center field.

He wasn’t done either. In the fifth and final inning, Teck sent a ball to the wall that drove in a few runs as part of an 8-run frame for the NL squad. The comeback fell short, but Teck was among the best performers on the night.

Kid Mero rushes the mound

Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez spent much of the game with a smile on his face, but in the second inning, he let out his inner Nolan Ryan.

In a funny moment in the game, writer and comedian The Kid Mero leaned into an inside pitch from Martinez and rushed the mound, feigning outrage. In the majors, that would clear the benches. Instead, Mero was out there alone as his teammates looked on. Martinez took care of business, handling Mero’s initial charge with ease before getting the comedian on the ground and theatrically beating him with his glove.

Pedro might have won the “fight,” but Mero still got to make his way down to first base.

Former NFL stars making plays

Former Dallas Cowboys star Terrell Owens had the longest hit of the night with a home run that hit right off the top of the fence about 330 feet from home plate. T.O. enjoyed it too, dropping his bat and taking a long look at his long blast before trotting around the bases.

Another former Cowboys star, Dez Bryant, also made a big play, but on the defensive side. With Martinez at the plate, Bryant hustled into foul ground, nearly tumbling into the netting behind home plate as he caught the pop fly for an out.

Coach Prime

Speaking of former NFL stars, Sanders didn’t get a chance to lace them up like he did in the 1990s, but that didn’t mean he was any less present.

Wearing a white cowboy hat, a big chain and dark sunglasses, the University of Colorado football coach made himself known on the field in Arlington. Coach Prime was active all game, animatedly directing baserunners and even pinch running for college softball legend Lauren Gipson, who is pregnant.

Sanders even had some of the other celebrities starstruck, with a few asking him for autographs. Opposing manager and content creator Nicky Cass got his hat signed by the Hall of Famer.

The American League comes back, almost

The game had its share of fun moments, but a big fourth inning from the NL team seemingly put an end to the game. The team scored six runs with two outs to extend their lead to 9-2. Three more runs in the fifth made the score 12-2 with just three outs remaining for the AL.

Despite the long odds, the team put together a spirited comeback attempt, scoring eight runs in the fifth inning to bring it to a two-run deficit. They even managed to bring the tying run to the plate before Dude Perfect’s Tyler Toney grounded out to end the comeback.
