Cricketer Virat Kohli reclaimed his position as India’s most valued celebrity, boasting a brand value of USD 227.9 million. This marks a significant increase of nearly 29% from USD 176.9 million in 2022, although it still falls short of his peak value of USD 237.7 million in 2020, according to a report by consultancy firm Kroll. Kohli’s resurgence saw him surpass actor Ranveer Singh, who slipped to the second spot with a brand value of USD 203.1 million. This report ranks India’s most influential celebrity brands, using brand values calculated from their endorsement portfolios and social media presence.
The report, titled Kroll’s Celebrity Brand Valuation Report 2023, also highlights the impressive rise of actor Shah Rukh Khan. Thanks to the success of films like “Jawaan” and “Pathaan,” the 58-year-old actor surged to third place with a brand value of USD 120.7 million in 2023. This is a remarkable jump from USD 55.7 million in 2022, which had placed him tenth on the list. Aviral Jain, Kroll’s managing director for valuation advisory services, noted that Khan is making an “incredible return” to the top five celebrity endorsers in India for the first time since 2020.
SRK’s leap in brand value caused shifts in the rankings of other celebrities. Akshay Kumar fell to fourth place with a brand value of USD 111.7 million, down from third in 2022. Alia Bhatt dropped to fifth from fourth with a valuation of USD 101.1 million, and Deepika Padukone slid to sixth place with a brand value of USD 96 million, down from fifth in 2022.
Cricketer MS Dhoni, who recently retired, moved up one spot to seventh with a brand value of USD 95.8 million. Retired cricketer Sachin Tendulkar maintained his eighth position with a brand value of USD 91.3 million. Salman Khan climbed to the tenth spot with a brand value of USD 81.7 million.
The overall brand value of the top 25 celebrity brands in 2023 stood at USD 1.9 billion, reflecting a 15.5% increase from the previous year. Kiara Advani moving from rank 16 to rank 12, and Katrina Kaif joined the list of India’s most valued celebrity brands for the first time in last five years. The overall brand value of the top 25 celebrities in 2023 is estimated at USD 1.9 billion (bn), an increase of 15.5% from last year.
