Who Soccer Aid celebrities support as Liverpool fans play in charity match

It is that time of year again as former players and celebrities come together for Soccer Aid. This year’s match will be held at Stamford Bridge with all proceeds going to charity Unicef.

There will be an immediate return to Chelsea for Mauricio Pochettino as World XI boss after his surprise exit last month while England will be managed by one of his predecessors in Frank Lampard.

The squads feature some star names including the likes of Eden Hazard, Alessandro Del Piero and Jermain Defoe, while several ex-Liverpool favorites are also set to take to the field for the match on Sunday.

David James made over 250 appearances in a Liverpool shirt and will be in goal for England while Joe Cole will have fonder memories of his time at Chelsea in comparison to his Anfield stint.

England also boats a Liverpool fanatic among its ranks in Olympic gold medalist Sam Quek. The 35-year-old was part of the Team GB hockey side that won gold in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.

Quek took her father’s side as she grew up a Liverpool supporter, despite her mother being from a family full of Everton fans. She attended her first match in 1999 and has even managed to watch the Reds in the Champions League final.

The now-TV presenter revealed that as a teenager she had to choose between football and hockey before opting for the latter. But her dream of representing Liverpool almost came true when she was offered a trial with Women’s side.

Speaking to FourFourTwo in 2023, she said: “I would have made time if I was just that bit younger. But saying that, as arrogant as it sounds, I reckon I could still do a job!”

Quek recently suggested Arne Slot would be a ‘really good fit’ for Liverpool before opening up on Jurgen Klopp’s exit. She told the Daily Mirror: “He really immersed himself into Scouse culture with his passion, not just for the club, but for the community. He goes down in history as a person and as a manager.”

The Olympic champion will hope red prevails over blue at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. The World XI boasts none other than heavyweight boxer and die-hard Evertonian Tony Bellew, as its celebrity goalkeeper.

Other famous football fans in action include England cricket legend Stuart Broad (Nottingham Forest), Roman Kemp (Arsenal), Jason Manford (Manchester City) and Danny Dyer (West Ham).
