Even the rich and famous need a little help planning their parties sometimes, and now their planner is sharing her secrets.
Mindy Weiss, an LA-based party planner, has some pretty big names under her belt when it comes to who she’s curated events for.
While she is known for her stunning weddings, the expert also gained recognition for her elaborate parties for the Kardashians.
As someone who now has parties down to a fine art, and who is somewhat of of an pro specifically in children’s events, Mindy has shared her top-three tips to a fool-proof party.
Dishing on what it is like to party plan for A-listers, Mindy said people would be surprised to know how collaborative her clients are.
Although she joked she’s ‘always worried’ she’ll run out of themes for the all 13 of the kids in the Kardashian clan, the party planning pro said the themes are usually given to her.
‘Typically the girls call (and Rob, sometimes) and they tell us the theme,’ she told Today, adding: ‘They involve the kids 100 per cent.’
The planner revealed that the famous family are one of the more hands-on clients she’s worked with.
‘People think that [the Kardashians] wouldn’t be involved and just leave it to me, but they are the most creative family I think I’ve ever worked with,’ she shared.
Once Mindy knows the theme, she works with a team to to put together the event.
‘Every event, we think, “Oh my god. How are we going to do that?”‘ she admitted, adding that because most of the event she curates are near or in Los Angeles, she is able to find ’98 per cent’ of what she needs.
Mindy was behind Kylie Jenner’s daughter Stormi’s extravagant fifth birthday, which included a giant inflatable grey ‘Astroworld’ tunnel of her daughter’s head – inspired by her father Travis Scott’s album art – and custom tees.
Mindy, who admits she’s a Disney fan herself, also showed off her expertise planning in her extravagant baby shower for Khloe Kardashian and Travis Barker in September 2023, which was seen on season 5 of the The Kardashians.
She also prides herself on her attention to detail, noting the vintage Disney character vases she found for the shower for flowers.
Although she was told many times details like character vase will go unnoticed by the hosts, Mindy says Kourtney loved the addition – even wanting them for her baby’s room.
Despite Kourtney testing positive for COVID before the event, Mindy came up with a solution – sitting the couple away from the other guests so that they could enjoy the party without infecting their guests.
‘Instead of getting overwhelmed with several things going on, take one incident at a time because I find there’s always a solution,’ she pointed out, advising hosts to keep the crises team to a small amount of people so ‘the whole aura of the party’ isn’t disturbed.
‘It may upset us that something didn’t work out or wasn’t there, but nine times out of 10, no one knows it was supposed to be there.’
Elsewhere, Mindy also dished her top tips for improving any event – and some of them might surprise you.
Avoid goody bags
The days of looking forward to a goody bag after the party are over since they are now considered to be a tad passé, according to Mindy.
‘We have now given up goody bags for art projects at the party. It’s an activity and a party favor,’ she explained to Today.
Encourage no-gift parties
Mindy is also a fan of no gifts at parties – even for kids.
‘You as a parent can go to Target or wherever and buy them a birthday present’ she declared, adding: ‘I wish my kids would do that.’
Hire some help
Rather than relying on the power of just parents to watch a room full of kids, Mindy suggests hiring some professional help.
‘We hire camp counselor types that are almost like babysitters,’ she explained.
‘If you have a large group of kids that are going to a place besides your own home, hire four chaperones for 25 kids,’ she suggested,
”If there’s a swimming pool, we hire lifeguards. It’s a great investment and it allows you to enjoy the party and watch your child and not other people’s children,’ Mindy added.
