Don’t Waste Your Money | Watch out for ‘deepfake’ ads of celebrities

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Are you influenced by celebrities and their ads? Be careful! Some of them are being “deepfaked” by scammers.

Taylor Swift was the most recent victim. With tickets for her shows selling for thousands of dollars, scammers are looking for every way to exploit her likeness.

Earlier this year, a social media ad showed Taylor Swift allegedly giving away thousands of Le Cruset cookware sets.

Le Cruset said they had nothing to do with the ad.

Security expert Dave Hatter with Intrust It Security said all scammers need is a video of the person they are targeting and a recording of their voice, and an AI program does the rest.

“It is very easy to create incredibly realistic deepfake content, for any person at this point,” Hatter said.

Be careful of social media ads from celebrities, no matter how real they look.

People who fell for this scheme say the scammers billed their credit card and were sent nothing.

But you know more are coming, so be skeptical, that way you don’t waste your money.
