20th Annual Sitrin Celebrity Wheelchair Basketball Classic

UTICA, N.Y. — The 20th annual Sitrin Celebrity Classic Wheelchair Basketball Game returned to the hardwood at Utica University.

A great crowd was on hand to help raise money for the Sitrin Stars program.

The Sitrin Stars faced off against the Celebrity Cruisers

Alongside the celebrities were some Syracuse Orange Men’s Basketball stars. Chris Bell, Kyle Cuffe Jr., and Naheem McLeod joined in on the fun for a good cause.

Bell said “being able to give back and being aware about stuff is nice. As athletes and students we don’t get out, people think we just care about basketball and we don’t care about the community, but we do and we want to show them our support.”

The proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Sitrin Stars Program. This program gives individuals with physical disabilities a chance to participate in adaptive sports programs.

These proceeds will go a long way for the equipment said Director of Sitrin Stars, Marc DePerno.

“The dollars will help purchase very unique specialized and adaptive sporting equipment.Wheelchairs used for basketball, road racing curling, kayaking canoeing.”

DePerno also said, “any sport can be adaptive, but it’s expensive and these dollars help us with costs.”

The Sitrin Stars got the job done again hanging on to beat the celebrities 38 to 33.
