According to data analyzed by marketing experts at Upbeat Agency sourced from Statista, the top ten highest-earning celebrity beauty brands in recent times have seen remarkable success, with their revenues soaring to impressive heights.
Celebrities are no longer just brand ambassadors and faces of luxury brands, they have also become entrepreneurs with their beauty brands raking in millions in revenue.
The brands on this list include:
Fenty Beauty by Rihanna: Claiming the top spot with a staggering revenue of $602.4 million. Launched in 2017, Fenty Beauty set a groundbreaking standard for inclusivity in the beauty industry. When it debuted, Fenty Beauty introduced over 40 shades of foundation, catering to a diverse range of skin tones. This move was a game-changer, prompting other brands to follow suit and expand their shade ranges. Since then, several other brands have also prioritized inclusivity, but Fenty Beauty remains iconic for its commitment to celebrating beauty in all its forms.
Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s hair care brand – Anomaly: Securing the second spot with $542.7 million in revenue. Anomaly stands out for its commitment to clean, affordable hair care products that prioritize sustainability. The brand’s hair oil is a favourite among customers.
Kylie Jenner’s Kylie Cosmetics: Claiming the third position, generating $380.4 million in revenue. Its debut was nothing short of iconic. Back in 2015, the world was introduced to the now-famous Kylie Lip Kits—a collection of lip liners and liquid lipsticks. These kits sold out within minutes, causing a frenzy among makeup enthusiasts. The brand expanded its offerings beyond lip kits to include a diverse range of makeup products. The brand’s mascara reigns supreme, with over 1,500 searches per month globally.
Ariana Grande’s r.e.m beauty: Clinching the fourth spot with $88.7 million in revenue, r.e.m beauty was founded in 2021 with a brand ethos of vegan and cruelty-free formulations.
The brand’s foundation and lip oil are highly sought after with over 800 monthly searches.
Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty secured the fifth position, generating $75.7 million in revenue. With a focus on mental health advocacy, Rare Beauty donates 1% of its yearly revenue to the Rare Impact Fund. The brand’s blush is a fan favorite, reflecting its popularity and impact beyond the beauty realm.
Other notable brands include Flower Beauty by Drew Barrymore, Go-To Skincare by Zoë Foster Blake, Alterna Haircare with Katie Holmes as ambassador, Sugargoop! from Maria Sharapova, and Jeffree Star Cosmetics.
Commenting on the success of celebrity beauty brands, Jordan Bucknell, CEO of Upbeat Agency, said, “While many celebrities have started a company of their own, not many have been as successtul or popular as these celebs. That is because they have a passion for what they are creating, and they are credible advocates for their brands.”
“The brands have surpassed the initial celebrity hype stage because they produce quality products that have stood the test of time and silenced critics.”
“This is why celebrity beauty brands have amassed over one billion U.S. dollars in sales alone by 2023 and why sales for celebrity beauty brands surged by nearly 58% in
2023. This is a remarkable feat when compared to the overall growth rate of the beauty industry, which is projected to grow by around 3% annually.”
