Celebrity bagging events benefitting Harvest For Hunger

The Harvest For Hunger campaign is providing an opportunity for people to meet local personalities during its celebrity bagging events at local Giant Eagle stores, according to a news release.

The Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio sponsored campaign, which runs through May, helps restock the shelves with nutritious food at over 130 local food pantries, hot meal programs and shelters so that it can continue to meet the increased need it is seeing in its communities, the release said.

There are many ways to get involved with this campaign, including donating at secondharvestfoodbank.org, running a food drive, participating in a company campaign or by visiting your local Giant Eagle or Heinen’s, according to the release.

Check Out Hunger allows shoppers to make a Harvest For Hunger donation at their local Giant Eagle, Heinen’s or Buehler’s Fresh Foods, the release said.

Last year, these $2, $5 and $10 donations added up to over $164,000, according to the release.

The celebrities and events are:

• From 1-3 p.m., April 12, Giant Eagle, 31990 Walker Road in Avon Lake, will feature: Avon Lake Mayor Mark Spaetzel; former Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka; and Julie Chase-Morefield, president and CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio.

• From 1-3 p.m., May 17, Giant Eagle  2201 Kresge Drive in Amherst, will feature Tiffany Tarpley, Channel 5 morning anchor and Lorain native; and Chase-Morefield from 1-4 p.m.
