Many Hollywood celebrities share last names.

Mandy and Demi Moore, Denzel and Kerry Washington, Jennifer and Mario Lopez, and Kristen and Martha Stewart. Or how about Diane and Michael Keaton? None of these people are related to one another, however.

Still, it’s reasonable to wonder if stars with the same surname share a connection. Such is the case with Emma Stone and Sharon Stone. Is the Oscar-winning actress in any way related to the iconic Basic Instinct star? Here’s what we know.

So, is Emma Stone related to Sharon Stone?

The short answer to the question of whether Emma Stone is in any way related to Sharon Stone is “no.”

Emma, who is 35, is not the daughter, or niece, or cousin of Sharon, age 66, as far as anyone knows.

Emma grew up in Arizona, daughter of Krista and Jeff Stone. Her brother is named Spencer, and again, as far as anyone knows, none of the Stones from Emma’s family are related to Sharon.

Meanwhile, Sharon hails from Pennsylvania.

She was previously married to Michael Greenburg and Phil Bronstein, and has adopted three children: Roan, Laird, and Quinn.

So, although both actresses share a last name — and Irish ancestry — any known familial relation is not known.

Celebrities who don’t share a last name, but look alike, are also often mistaken as being related.

Other celebrities are just super close and cause fans to wonder if they are more than friends. Take Miley Cyrus and Dolly Parton as an example. Incidentally, the country superstar is Miley’s godmother.

Plenty of Hollywood stars are related, spawning the term “nepo baby.”

Or how about Melanie Griffith, Don Johnson, and their daughter Dakota Johnson? By the way, the Madame Web star has been pretty clear on why she hates being labeled a nepo baby, in true nepo baby fashion.

“When that first started I found it to be incredibly annoying and boring,” Johnson said about the term. “If you’re a journalist, then write about something else. That’s just lame.”

Other stars have more of a real sense about what it really means to be a nepo baby.

Gwyneth Paltrow, who interestingly used to be married to Dakota’s current partner, Chris Martin (see, it’s a small world!), once said about having famous parents Blythe Danner and Bruce Paltrow, “As the child of someone, you get access other people don’t have, so the playing field is not level in that way.”

She did add, to be fair, “However, I really do feel that once your foot is in the door, which you unfairly got in, then you almost have to work twice as hard and be twice as good.”
