Rockford-area celebrities read to Constance Lane Elementary students

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Hammie the Hog, Dorothy Paige Turner and other local figures read to elementary students during the Read Around The World event.

On March 6, kindergarten through 2nd grade students from Constance Lane Elementary, 620 Gregory St., gathered to listen to local celebrities and staff read their favorite book.

The event celebrates Read Across America week, March 2-6, by reading classic scholastic and Dr. Seuss books.

“It’s national Read Across America week and in celebration, our parent liaison has invited 21 of our community members to come into the school.” Constance Lane Elementary Assistant Principal Crystal Bachman says. “We provide them with a book and a classroom and the children just interact with the community member.”

Bachman hopes the event helps students believe in their ability to be strong readers through community support.
