David Letterman revisits iconic Top 10 List in new variety show teaser

David Letterman is passing on the torch – and it’s not to his “Late Show” successor, Stephen Colbert.

In the Post’s exclusive teaser for the show “Stupid Pet Tricks,” David Letterman passes the mantle onto Sarah Silverman as he revisits his iconic Top 10 List.

Hosted by Silverman, 53, and premiering on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. (multi-network, across TBS, Discovery, truTV, and Animal Planet) after the Puppy Bowl (before its regular time slot of Mondays 9 p.m. on TBS), “Stupid Pet Tricks” is a reimagining of the Letterman segment, from when he helmed “The Late Show with David Letterman” from 1992-2015.

In the sneak peek of the cold open, Silverman sits in her office on the Warner Bros lot with Letterman, 76, sporting his now iconic post- “Late Show” beard.

“David, I just have to say, hosting ‘Stupid Pet Tricks’ is a dream come true,” Silverman tells him.

“You know how much I love animals!”

“By the way, I didn’t know you love animals,” Letterman replies. “But that’s good. And we’re not really going to be working that much together. You were on a list of top 10 possibilities to host the show, based on availability.”

The clip then leans into the nostalgia of the “Top 10,” which was another famous segment on “Letterman,” where the talk show host used to go through a list of the “Top 10” items relating to a common theme.

Silverman asks him who else made his “Top 10” lists of alternate hosts, before she got the gig.

He then rattles off names, which includes Zach Galifianakis, Mindy Kaling and Jake from “State Farm,” as Silverman gets increasingly dismayed.

“Couldn’t afford him,” Letterman explains, then continues his list with, “Jeff Gillooly–”

“The guy that broke Nancy Kerrigan’s leg?” Silverman asks, referring to the ex-husband of disgraced figure skater Tonya Harding, who was played by Sebastian Stan in the movie “I, Tonya.”

Letterman continues, “James Corden, Rupert from the ‘Hello Deli.’ Literally anyone else–”

“You know what,” Silverman interrupts. “I just feel like the point is, we ended up here. Together. Me and you. The passing of the torch…we are not gonna let you down, Dave.”

The original “Stupid Pet Tricks” was part of “The Late Show With David Letterman” where dogs and their owners went on his show to perform tricks.

On Silverman’s variety show, each episode will feature pets performing tricks, along with a slew of celeb guest stars, including Letterman himself, Jon Hamm, Will Ferrell, Judd Apatow, Howie Mandel, Jack McBrayer, Charlotte McKinney, Reggie Watts and Jeff Ross.

“Stupid Pet Tricks” premieres Sunday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m. (multi-network, across TBS, Discovery, truTV, and Animal Planet), before its regular timeslot on Mondays (9 p.m. on TBS).
