In recent times, several Bollywood stars have successfully conquered cancer after early detection and treatment. These celebrities, having faced the health challenge, emerged triumphant, highlighting the importance of timely diagnosis in the battle against cancer.

Take a look at some of the celebrities who fought cancer and emerged warriors.

SANJAY DUTT

In 2020, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt received a diagnosis of lung cancer. Subsequent to this revelation, he underwent comprehensive treatment for the ailment at a Mumbai hospital. Several months after being diagnosed with cancer, Sanjay Dutt announced in 2021 that he had successfully overcome the disease and was cancer-free.

In an exclusive conversation with IndiaToday.in, Sanjay had said, “I just told myself I don’t have cancer. I said it was impossible. This cannot happen. I went through that process of whatever it is, chemotherapy. And Dr. Sevanti, who is one of the most fantastic doctors I have met in my life, took care of me. Thanks to Rakesh Roshan saab, he recommended her. Everything she said, I will do the operation. She said baal girenge, I said nahi girenge, I used to do chemotherapy and I used to go and workout.”

SONALI BENDRE

In a post that left her fans heartbroken in 2018, actor Sonali Bendre revealed that she had been diagnosed with cancer. She took to social media to announce that she was undergoing treatment in New York for high-grade cancer. In her post, the 47-year-old actress revealed that this diagnosis was unexpected. Sonali remained optimistic due to the outpouring of love and support she received. From spending time with Priyanka Chopra in New York City to visiting Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, Sonali had her family and friends by her side throughout the treatment.

As a result of chemotherapy, Sonali Bendre, in a bold move, chose to shave her hair off. However, she also expressed her desire to sport a wig whenever she feels like it.

Sharing a post on social media, Sonali revealed that as part of the entertainment industry, she’s always expected to look good. But this time, she chose to go with what works best for her and her mood!

In December 2018, Sonali returned to Mumbai after being cured of cancer.

RAKESH ROSHAN

Earlier this year, veteran actor and director Rakesh Roshan was diagnosed with early-stage throat cancer – squamous cell carcinoma of the throat. This particular type of cancer is characterized by uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells in the lining of the throat.

His son, actor Hrithik Roshan, announced the news through a post and also shared a picture with his father before their workout. He wrote that he knew Rakesh Roshan wouldn’t miss the gym, even on surgery day.

The director is recuperating and was recently spotted casting his vote in Mumbai for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Rakesh Roshan’s daughter Sunaina Roshan was diagnosed with cervical cancer a few years ago but emerged as a survivor.

MANISHA KOIRALA

‘Dil Se’ actor Manisha Koirala was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2012 at the age of 42 year. However, her determination helped her tide over the crisis – so much so that she has even penned a memoir on her tryst with cancer and how she lived to tell the story!

KIRRON KHER

Veteran actress Kirron Kher has been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of cancer affecting plasma cells. Anupam Kher shared that the actor and Member of Parliament is currently undergoing treatment for the condition. Through various social media posts, her son Sikander consistently updates fans about her health. Recently, Kirron herself shared on Instagram that she is working from home.

LISA RAY

In 2009, Lisa Ray was also diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of cancer that affects plasma cells, in 2009. This revelation marked a significant turning point in her life. Multiple myeloma is a type of blood cancer that originates in the bone marrow, leading to the abnormal growth of plasma cells. Despite the gravity of the diagnosis, Lisa Ray approached her battle with cancer with resilience and determination.

And even Nafisa Ali Sodhi was diagnosed with peritoneal and ovarian cancer in November 2018

Several other actors, such as Rishi Kapoor, Irrfan, Rajesh Khanna, Vinod Khanna, Nargis, Mumtaz, and Feroz Khan, lost their battle with cancer. Their contributions to the film industry left an indelible mark, and their absence is deeply felt. Despite their talent, the harsh reality of cancer claimed these luminaries, leaving fans mourning the loss of these iconic figures in the world of cinema.
