‘General Hospital’ star Tyler Christopher’s official cause of death revealed

“General Hospital” star Tyler Christopher’s official cause of death was revealed Friday.

According to documents obtained by TMZ from the San Diego Medical Examiner, his cause of death is listed as positional asphyxia due to acute alcohol intoxication.

This essentially means the soap star suffocated to death because of the way he was positioned and alcohol played a part in that.

His death was accidental, the docs reportedly state.

Coronary artery atherosclerosis is also listed as a contributing condition.

The Post has Christopher’s rep and the Medical Examiner for comment.

Christopher died on Oct. 31. He was 50.

In 2019, he was arrested and charged with public intoxication in Indiana. He had reportedly Ubered home but passed out and urinated himself.

He portrayed both Nikolas Cassadine from 1996 to 2016, as well as Connor Bishop from 2004 to 2005 on ABC’s “General Hospital.”

In 2016, he won the Daytime Emmy for his performance and previously more earned four nominations.

A year later, he joined NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” as Stefan DiMera, which also scored him an Emmy nod. He left the series in 2019 and was recast with Brandon Barash.

Christopher’s “GH” co-star Maurice Benard confirmed his death Oct. 31 on Instagram.

“It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Tyler Christopher,” Benard wrote at the time. “Tyler passed away this morning following a cardiac event in his San Diego apartment.”

“Tyler was a truly talented individual that lit up the screen in every scene he performed and relished bringing joy to his loyal fans through his acting. Tyler was a sweet soul and wonderful friend to all of those who knew him.”

He added, “Tyler was an advocate for better mental health and substance use treatment who openly spoke about his struggles with bipolar depression and alcohol. We are beyond devastated by the loss of our dear friend and pray for his children and his father.”

Christopher’s rep Chi Muoi Lo also confirmed the actor’s death to The Post.

“I can confirm that Tyler Christopher has passed away this morning,” they wrote in the statement. “This news was incredibly shocking, and I am devastated by his loss. He was a very gifted actor, and more importantly, an amazing friend. My heart goes out to his friends and family who loved him so much.”
