Cry Justin a river.
As Justin Timberlake has announced a new world tour, Britney Spears fans have sent her song “Selfish” to the top of the charts — to troll her ex-boyfriend.
Timberlake, 42, dropped his comeback single “Selfish” earlier this week. His The Forget Tomorrow [World] Tour will kick off in Vancouver, Canada on April 29, with tickets going on sale Feb. 2.
However, Spears, 42, also has a song of the same name, first released on the deluxe version of Spears’ 2011 album “Femme Fatale.”
The song entered the top 40 of the U.S. iTunes chart on Friday.
The Spears fan fan account BritneyxYtube told Entertainment Weekly that this all “started as a joke.”
Spears fans rallied to make it happen after Timberlake announced his new single, off his first album in five years, “Everything I Thought It Was,” coming out March 15.
“Then we all joined in, saying that Britney Spears was coming back with a ‘brand’ new song,” the fan account said. “I still can’t believe that it became so big, and we see the results we see now. We are all so happy to see her song making a come back after all these years!”
“Britney Army level of pettiness deserve to be praised,” one fan posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Another fan wrote, “Britney has the funniest fanbase.”
Other fans used this as a chance to hope that Spears starts making music again, since Spears posted on Instagram earlier this month, “I will never return to the music industry!!!”
“I hope Britney sees the SELFISH campaign & it inspires her musically, in some way. As a Britney fan, I’m desperate for new music. We will always purchase, stream & support the QUEEN of POP. She needs to come back and school these pop girls,” one posted.
Spears’ memoir, “The Woman in Me,” which came out in October 2023, had several inflammatory anecdotes about her former ‘NSync beau, who she dated from 1999 to 2002.
In her book, Spears alleged that Timberlake cheated on her and pressured her into getting an abortion when she wouldn’t have made that choice “if it had been let up to me.”
“I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated,” wrote the “Toxic” singer.
“But Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young.”
“I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby. I don’t know if that was the right decision,” Spears, now 41, continued. “If it had been left up to me alone, I never would have done it. And yet Justin was so sure that he didn’t want to be a father.”
Timberlake has yet to publicly comment on the book bombshells, as fans continue to rally behind Spears.
“13 year old Selfish by Britney Spears has now more #1 on iTunes worldwide than Justin Timberlake’s newly lead single released Selfish, correlated with a video, promotional ads and a new photoshoot,” another fan triumphantly commented this week.
“Karma is Real!”
