Melanie Griffith posts rare photo of mom Tippi Hedren in honor of her 94th birthday

Melanie Griffith gave a bird’s-eye view of how her famous mom, Tippi Hedren, celebrated her 94th birthday over the weekend.

“Yesterday Mom aka MorMor turned 94,” Griffith, 66, wrote on Instagram on Saturday. “Always up for a party! Happy Birthday, mama.”

Hedren marked her big day decked out in layers of jewelry and by wearing a purple cardigan with embroidered hearts.

The “Birds” actress also sported pink nails and bedazzled matching glasses that read “Cake time!”

Several high-profile celebrities extended their well wishes to Hedren in the comments section.

“Forever beautiful! And especially her heart for animals,” Linda Thompson wrote.

“Still stunning. Happy Birthday, Tippi,” wrote Octavia Spencer.

“Happy Birthday,” Kris Jenner gushed. “Sending so much love!”

“Wishing your mom the happiest of birthdays,” Elliot Mintz commented. “She is an inspirational woman and you remain such a loving daughter.”

Hedren is best known for playing socialite Melanie Daniels in Alfred Hitchcock‘s 1963 thriller “The Birds.”

During her time on the film’s set, the esteemed moviemaker took her under his wing and taught her everything she needed to know about working in the entertainment business.

“I probably learned in three years what it would have taken me 15 years to learn otherwise,” she once recalled.

Her portrayal would later win her a Golden Globe for the now-defunct New Star of the Year award.

Her relationship with the fabled director publicly soured in 1964, however, when she was cast in his film “Marnie.”

According to Donald Spoto’s book, “The Dark Side of Genius,” Hitchcock “advised her on what she should eat, whom she should see, and how she should live.”

Rod Taylor, who starred opposite Hedren, claimed that “no one was permitted to come physically close to her during the production.”

In her 2016 memoir titled “Tippi,” Hedren claimed she was sexually assaulted by Hitchcock multiple times during the making of both films. (He died in 1980 at age 80.)

Hedren claimed Hitchcock would have his driver drive past her home and once asked her to “touch him” while they were working on “The Birds.” Additionally, she alleged he tried to kiss her in the back of a limo.

“It was an awful, awful moment,” she penned.

Hedren’s granddaughter, actress Dakota Johnson, said on the Hollywood Reporter’s “Awards Chatter” podcast that Hitchcock “ruined” her grandmother’s career.

“She’s always been really honest and firm about standing up for yourself. That’s what she did,” Johnson, 34, said in January 2022. “Hitchcock ruined her career because she didn’t want to sleep with him, and he terrorized her. He was never held accountable.”
