Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman made a rare appearance together at the Emmys 2024.
The exes first announced their separation in October 2012. They later reconciled in March 2013, before splitting for good in March 2017.
Despite the breakup, the pair have remained friends and looked in good spirits as they posed on the red carpet with their daughter Lucy DeVito.
Both, DeVito, 79, and Perlman, 75, served as presenters at the Emmys, which had been postponed amid the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023.
Perlman appeared onstage with fellow cast members from “Cheers,” while DeVito appeared with the rest of the cast of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” as part of the awards show’s tribute to some of the most iconic series in television history.
In addition to “Cheers“ and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” the shows “The Sopranos,” “All in the Family,” “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Ally McBeal,” “Game of Thrones,” “Martin,” “The Carol Burnett Show,” and “I Love Lucy” received tributes during Monday night’s ceremony, which was broadcast on Fox.
During his time onstage, DeVito gave his ex a sweet shoutout, saying, “Even Rhea won four for ‘Cheers.’”
In the past, Perlman has opened up about her close relationship with DeVito and revealed that they have no plans to get a divorce.
“We are still married,” the actress confirmed on a June 2023 episode of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ “Wiser Than Me” podcast, produced by Lemonada Media. “And we are still very good friends and we see each other a lot. And our family is still the most important thing to both of us.”
The “Poms” actress further explained the couple’s dynamic during an episode of “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.”
“I don’t know why it’s difficult for other people, but Danny and I have always loved each other and we have three amazing children together,” Perlman said.” “We really agree on almost everything important.”
She continued, “You know, we were together for 40 years. 40 years is a long time. You might have to do something else!”
Perlman and DeVito began dating in 1971 and married in January 1982. In addition to Lucy, they share a son, Jack, and daughter Grace.
After they separated, Perlman called the breakup a “big shift.”
“I’m not gonna sugarcoat it — it was difficult,” Perlman said. “It was very difficult at first. And there were a lot of reasons that we separated, which I’m not gonna go into. But it took time for us to come to this somehow pretty decent understanding and relationship with each other.
“But I don’t think I would’ve ever given up my relationship for it,” she added. “And I didn’t.”
