Did Hannah Waddingham console Ariana DeBose at the Emmys after her brutal Critics’ Choice dig?

Hannah Waddingham showed support for Ariana DeBose on the Emmys 2024 red carpet after the “Hamilton” star’s singing ability was discredited at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

Fellow theater actress Waddingham, 49, appeared to give DeBose, 32, a pep talk Monday night as the pair held hands and engaged in a close conversation.

One night earlier, the “Last of Us” star Bella Ramsey included DeBose, a Tony-nominated Broadway star in the list of “actors who also think they are singers,” while reading off a teleprompter at the Critics’ ceremony.

DeBose’s song “This Wish” from the Disney movie “Wish” was nominated at the show, but ultimately went to “I’m Just Ken” from the “Barbie” movie.

The “West Side Story” star looked confused by the remark during the ceremony and later confirmed her feelings on her Instagram Story.

“No I didn’t find it funny. Lol,” DeBose wrote.

Fans quickly came to DeBose’s defense on X, the platform prevously known as Twitter.

“Ariana DeBose, Oscar award winning, Tony nominated, OG cast member of Hamilton on BROADWAY…. ‘THINKS she’s a singer’?!? Who wrote this bit?! I want names #CriticsChoiceAwards,” one fan fumed.

“The disrespect to Academy Award winner, Tony nominee, Broadway star, Ariana DeBose is WILD. The look on her face really said it all,” a second wrote.

“Imagine the audacity of saying THE oscar winner, broadway trained ariana debose isn’t a SINGER. END THEM MOTHER,” wrote a third.

The Emmys showed DeBose respect on X upon her red carpet arrival, writing, “Ariana DeBose, an actor who CAN sing (ahem, Critics’ Choice…).”

Critics’ Choice host Chelsea Handler also used the show to make a subtle jab at her ex-boyfriend and Golden Globes 2024 host Jo Koy.

“Unfortunately, Martin Scorsese isn’t here tonight, but that’s not going to stop me from letting everyone in this room know that I would toss him around like a little Italian meatball,” Handler joked in her monologue.

“Thank you for laughing at that. My writers wrote it,” she added, referring to Koy throwing his writers under the bus during his Globes monologue last week.
