Jo Koy has taken a jab at the celebrity audience at the recent Golden Globes, calling them out for their lukewarm reception of his performance.

What Happened: As per a report by Business Insider, Koy, 52, used his comedy show in St. Louis on Friday as a platform to mock the celebrity crowd at the Golden Globes.

“Lot a marshmallows, man. They’re delicious, but goddamn, they’re soft,” Koy said.

“I just come from a different time. I see the changes that are happening. I get it, but goddamn, can we f***ing laugh at ourselves?”

He also suggested that his St. Louis audience members probably didn’t watch or care about the controversy.

Koy’s jokes, including those about Taylor Swift and Greta Gerwig, fell flat during his Golden Globes opening monologue. Swift, who was the subject of one of the jokes, kept a blank face as she sipped her drink. Koy later told Extra that his joke was intended as a “compliment.” His joke about Gerwig’s film “Barbie” also didn’t land, and Koy tried to shift the blame to the writers.

Why It Matters: Koy’s response comes in the wake of the controversy surrounding his Golden Globes performance. The comedian’s critique of the celebrity audience highlights the challenges performers face in the current social climate. The incident also raises questions about the role of humor and satire in public events and the audience’s responsibility to engage with controversial content.

Moreover, Koy’s comments add to the ongoing conversation about the changing dynamics of the entertainment industry, particularly in the wake of the success of films like “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” which set several box office records for the year.
