The 29th annual Critics Choice Awards were held at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, on Sunday.

Many celebrities took risks with their Critics Choice Awards outfits, opting for glamorous gowns and bold prints. However, other celebrities missed the mark in shapeless looks and confusing style choices.

Here are the Critics Choice looks that missed the mark, in our opinion.

Greta Gerwig attended the award show in a floor-length gown that looked like bedsheets.

We thought that the skirt of this Molly Goddard gown looked more like bedsheets than a red-carpet look, and the neckline and sleeves cut the “Barbie” director off in a strange place.

The dropped waistline and minimal accessories also did little to help the look.

Bows are all the rage right now, but Camilla Morrone’s feminine look appeared slightly unfinished.

Morrone attended the awards show wearing a white Chanel Couture gown with a statement black bow on the front and a frayed hemline. She paired the look with minimal jewelry.

While the “Daisy Jones & the Six” actress should be praised for trying out the bow trend that’s been everywhere lately, the frayed hemline and illusion of a separate top and skirt made this outfit look more like lingerie than an award-show ensemble.

Danielle Brooks also wore a bow-front dress with layers upon layers of tulle ruffles.

“The Color Purple” actress donned the light-pink Monsoori dress, pairing it with simple silver jewelry and a flipped-out 1960s-inspired hairstyle.

While we love this look’s feminine pink-and-black color combination and satin black bow, we thought the cascading ruffles and oversized silhouette overpowered Brooks. Perhaps this ensemble would have fit in more at a costume party than on the red carpet.

Pedro Pascal wore a custom arm-sling that slightly resembled a straightjacket.

While Pascal should be commended for trying to make medical equipment fashionable, the color and style of his suit and matching sling made our eyebrows raise for the wrong reasons.

Pascal has not explained in detail how he was injured, only telling People at the recent Golden Globes that he “fell.”

Billie Eilish attended the awards ceremony wearing a menswear-inspired look that left a little to be desired.

Eilish, who was nominated alongside her songwriting partner and brother Finneas for their song “What Was I Made For,” played with proportions in a menswear-inspired look designed by Thom Browne.

While the singer’s look was a new spin on a classic look, the shirt was too simple and the corset-style dress ended at an awkward length.

Maria Bello also tried out a similar look, but her embroidered skirt and dress shirt looked disjointed.

Bello’s oversized short-sleeve dress shirt looked slightly out of place with her floor-length embroidered sheer skirt from Falguni Shane Peacock and layers of pearl jewelry.

The “Beef” actress’ black belt only added to the separateness of the outfit’s elements.

Songwriter Caroline Ailin took risks in a sheer polka-dot cape, but the gown itself could have been more daring.

While Ailin, who famously wrote Dua Lipa’s “New Rules” and is a musician herself, took fashion risks with her sheer polka-dot cape, the black dress underneath made the cape blend in and was too simple.

“Riverdale” actress Vanessa Morgan’s high-low lace dress looked slightly dated.

Morgan, like other celebrities, opted for a red look at the Critics Choice Awards in a high-low lace dress with a flowing train.

While the train was eye-catching, we thought the raised hemline in the front of the dress was slightly dated. This look could have fit in more at a high-school prom than a red-carpet event.

Mandy Moore’s daring sequin-colored gown had a too-long slit and awkward cutouts.

While Moore’s Critics Choice Awards look was undeniably daring, the slit of her red, sequined dress went up slightly too high, and the cutouts on the side of the gown didn’t appear perfectly symmetrical in photos.

“The Bear” actress Abby Elliott wore a tomato-red sheer gown with puffed sleeves and a high neckline.

Elliot’s look also followed the red theme, but the puffed sleeves, high neckline, and gauze fabric appeared to age the star, who often wears more current and daring outfits to red-carpet events.
