“I have so much gratitude genuinely for this moment,” she said. “I’m grateful that I get to keep trying new things and for the opportunity to make choices when it comes to work, because I know how rare and fleeting it can be to choose what you want to do or who you want to work with as an actor. And I am really so thankful for that.”

I’m thinking not only of her gorgeous work in Maestro, but also in Promising Young Woman and She Said and The Dig and Mudbound and Suffragette. It’s that emotion that’s tamped down and it’s underground. It’s like the smaller tremors that we get here in California, not really measurable. Nothing shakes, but you’re aware that the earth is roiling below, and when that fall cracks open, she could bring your house down.”
