In response to the sudden and tragic news of actor Lee Sun Gyun‘s passing, celebrities are making a gesture by adjusting their year-end award ceremony attire to black.
Within the entertainment industry, colleagues are collectively mourning the unexpected loss of Lee Sun Gyun. It has come to light that celebrities, who had initially prepared outfits in various colors for the upcoming year-end award ceremony, are now opting for a unified black dress code.
According to a December 28 report from Hankyung.com, a distinct trend is taking shape at year-end award ceremonies, with many actors opting for black attire. This shift appears to be an unspoken homage to the late Lee Sun Gyun, as celebrities select black ensembles.
An official from the SBS Drama Awards clarified that while there’s no formal directive for black clothing, the idea took root when an actor asked about the suitability of wearing black. The response, “If you wish, feel free to do so,” has seemingly encouraged a wave of solidarity, leading to a noticeable preference for black attire among attendees.
A spokesperson for a male actor revealed, “We received a call in the afternoon on the day when the news of actor Lee Sun Gyun’s passing was announced. Fortunately, as a male actor, we had already prepared a black tuxedo in advance. However, we are concerned that it might be challenging for female actors (to find black dresses).”
Tragically, Lee Sun Gyun was discovered unconscious in his parked car in a park in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on December 27, but later police confirmed his passing.
His memorial altar is situated on the 3rd floor, Room 1 of Seoul National University Hospital funeral home, with his wife Jeon Hye-jin posting his name as a mark of remembrance. Following the news, celebrities and fans have turned to social media to offer their condolences, and many are visiting the memorial to mourn together.
Lee Sun Gyun, celebrated for his role opposite Moon Chae Won in the SBS drama ‘Payback‘ earlier this year, was widely praised for his compelling performance. The drama’s success highlighted his and Moon’s incredible talent and chemistry.
Among online discussions, there is speculation that, had there been no suspicions of Lee Sun Gyun’s drug use, he would have been considered a candidate for an award.
In light of this, there is a debate about whether Moon Chae Won, who appeared in ‘Payback’ with the late Lee Sun Gyun, will attend the SBS Drama Awards.
