I’m A Celebrity host Ant slammed by fans as he makes ‘mean’ dig at Sam Thompson

Ant McPartlin has made his feelings on Sam Thompson clear – much to fans upset.

The Made in Chelsea star is currently in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! camp alongside eleven other celebrities. Sam has won over viewers with his bubbly personality and positive attitude on the ITV show. He has joined the likes of Nigel Farage, Nella Rose and Jamie Lynn Spears in pursuit of becoming King or Queen of the Jungle.

However, some viewers have criticized Sam for being “attention seeking” and “annoying” at times on the show. The reality TV star has already shown his love to his campmates, being super exited to have boxer Tony Bellew in camp. After succeeding during his trial, Sam enjoyed sharing the news with camp and hugging all his co-stars.

It appeared Ant wasn’t so fussed on Sam’s positive attitude as he said: “At least the trial went well. It delivered the ultimate prize for camp, the one thing they value more than anything.” Dec interjected: “Food!” But Ant continued: “No, an hour without being hugged by Sam. That would have been bliss. You see, he is a nice kid and all that, he is a nice kid but the hug is too much. I wouldn’t like that, that’s too much for me. Back off.”

Fans at home weren’t impressed with Ant’s comment as they took to social media to share their thoughts. One said: “Sam’s gonna come out the jungle and see ant and dec taking the p**s out of his hugging and its gonna break his heart.” Another added: “That was a bit mean from Ant about Sam.”

Someone else commented: “ah, i love ant and dec but don’t like the jibes at sam. i’m not a big hugger either but people are who they are.” A fourth wrote: “Ant, i love you, but respectfully, shut up being negative about Sam.” During his trial, Sam shared his love towards the Geordie duo and he told them they were his “hero”. He told Ant and Dec: “I love you guys so much it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do make you proud.”

Following Sam’s appearance on I’m A Celebrity, his best friend Pete Wicks has defended the star from viewers who have critiqued his personality. Sam revealed that he had been diagnosed with ADHD and autism last year after he broke down in tears when he was told the news on Channel 4’s Is This ADHD?. He revealed a “weight had been lifted” from his shoulders after years of worrying he was a “bad person.”

Close pal Pete has since urged viewers to ’embrace’ Sam’s personality on I’m A Celebrity, after he was criticized for being “attention seeking” and “annoying” on Sunday’s premiere. Pete, also acknowledged that while Sam can be a “bit full-on,” he’s also likely to keep viewers glued to the screen.

“People should embrace that because he’s entertaining and that’s what the show is about. He should be defined by the fact that he’s a really fun, positive guy and that’s his personality aside from having ADHD and autism,” he said. The 35-year-old is travelling to Australia to visit Sam, whom he met in 2018 on Celebs Go Dating.
