I’m A Celeb drinking trials are better than they look due to off-screen trick

The eating and drinking trials always look horrendous on I’m A Celebrity – but they may not be quite as bad as you think.

A report on the German version of the I’m A Celebrity show, which is also filmed in Murwillumbah, said the drinks are watered down and the food is well cooked, despite its appearance.

RTL who broadcast the show in Germany said in a statement: “The food is cooked until it is ready for the stars to eat. Some liquid dishes are diluted for reasons of drinkability.”

An ITV source confirmed the UK version also adds water to some of its drinks which would make them more palatable. But they stressed this was only added for the celebs to be able to swallow whatever is blended, otherwise some drinks would be too thick.

Nutritional doctor Daniela Kielkowski also told German publication T-online there are no health concerns with the meat and other body parts being eaten. In fact because the jungle celebs only receive very limited food rations meat or insects would be a welcome source of proteins, nutrients and vitamins.

She said the biggest problem with the trials is not in the food served – but in the psychological component.

“Most of the time, the idea of what you have to eat there is so repulsive that you vomit,” she added.

In the second show of the series, Nella Rose and Nigel Farage took on the eating trial and got nine out of ten stars with Nigel eating everything at the Jungle Pizzeria trial. Last night he was also doing the drinking trial.

An ITV spokesman said all the meat is cooked and that strict health and safety rules were followed.
