The cast for the special will include musician Kojey Radical, actor Lenny Rush, naturalist Steve Backshall, radio and television presenter Zoe Ball and Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden.

The special episode will once again be hosted by Greg Davies and Alex Horne, with the airing date and time set to be announced in the coming weeks.

The announcement for New Year Treat came during the finale for the 16th series, which saw comedian Sam Campbell triumph over competitors Sue Perkins, Julian Clary, Susan Wokoma and Lucy Beaumont. The series featured many obscure and challenging tasks, including some that saw contestants attempt to drive a forklift around a challenging course, trying to put water back into a vase without spilling any, which saw the whole line-up disqualified.

Whilst fans have a while to wait for more Taskmaster action, Horne recently announced that he would be hitting the road again as part of The Horne Section, with the group touring the UK from March 2024 until November.

“Performing soon-to-be top hits, the six-headed musical comedy band bring their trademark unruly, ridiculous, and surprisingly satisfying stylings to an array of brand new songs” reads the official description for the tour.

“Expect plentiful enthusiastic dancing, party games, and a lot of mucking about, led by creator and co-host of BAFTA and National Comedy Award-winning hit TV show, Taskmaster, Alex Horne.”

Taskmaster series 16 airs and streams on Thursday nights at 9pm on Channel 4, where you can also stream previous series.
